6PL alterations?

I love my 6PL that I got a week ago, but I was wondering…just as a what if…if I wanted to upgrade it, what should I look for?

I was thinking an A19 one cell extender, but I've been reading things, and it sounds like it would get less runtime with the same brightness as the 6PL, this is not what I want. If I'm going to add another cell to my 6PL(thus becoming a 9PL) I would want the regulated brightness to be 8 hours instead of 3-4, or 6 instead of 3, I think you get the idea…

On the note of extenders, I was thinking about going rechargeable, and I still want my surefire warranty, so I think I'd go with the KR2 rechargeable system. How does the NiCd formula compare with Li-ion? What runtime would I expect with the 6PL? How would that type of battery fair in cold/hot weather? How many charges would I have to go through to make up for the large start up cost of rechargeables?

I was also thinking of an FM34 beam diffuser for it, but when comparing the wideness of beams with the red filter I have off(making a white beam) and my stock 6PL, I noticed the 6PL had a slighty wider beam, so I was wondering how much wider is the 6PL with FM34, as opposed to the stock 6PL? I'm pretty sure beamshots would help.

Another thing I was thinking of is a weapons mount for 1" diam bodied lights. I want something that doesn't mess up the light's finish, but is also secure. I'd also want something that I can put on weaver or picatinny rails, because if I airsoft, I don't know what rail platforms I'm going to use.

I was thinking of a turbohead, but that would be detrimental to my EDC practices, and also, I don't want incan, but if there was an amazingly bright (I'm thinking 200 lumens, maybe) tower module for less than 100 bucks, I might think of going that route.

Also, just as a general question, I have a Z59, and the Z41 that is on my 6PL. I'm told the Z59 clicky is HABK, but it looks the same as the Type II Z41. Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks very, very much for looking through this post. I just have a lot of questions that I'm itching for answers to.

Thanks in advance,

BogUSA's super premium cree drop in.
Maybe you missed it. He already has Surefire's 1st-party LED drop-in, the P60L, in his 6PL.

NiCd is a hardier, more robust system than Li-ion that will last a lot longer especially with regular and heavy usage, but generally has less capacity for charge than comparable Li-ion cells. From my own experience, Li-ions are a waste of time in long-runtime LED lights.

I'd suggest using your G2L for airsoft. The Lexan lens is impact resistant, more so than Pyrex, and the body won't mar as readily on a mount.

P60L is about... 1/4 as bright as the BOG Q5 super premium. It's a fantastic upgrade even if you have the P60L drop-in by Surefire.

I have a Leef McClicky tailcap and also a LeefGrip on my 6PL.

It's a fantastic little tool reminiscent of the Gladius. I love it to pieces.

@ Carrot: I agree, I think I'll use the G2L as my weap mounted light.
@ everyone: Does ANYONE know what kind of runtime and output I'd get using an all metal 3 cell light? Anyone have a C3 or 9P laying around that they can test with a 6PL?

Thanks much everyone!

First of all I would leave the NiCd behind in favor of NimH. Mimh is a much better deal. Lion's are fine as well. You need to make sure the lamp (led or incan) can deal with the voltage's of which ever battery formula you choose to go with.

The 6P size of flashlight as you have learned is vary versatile Surefire Legos is alive and well.

As far as I know a 9P will run the P60 longer than the 6P.
As was mentioned up the thread a drop in with a Q5 emitter (there are many to choose from check the sticky) will work great.
I don't know of any way to run a nimh chemistry cell in a 6P or 9P type light. It may be possible, I just haven't seen it.
These drop in lights are as bright a the higher output surefire incan globes. That is really saying something.
Your choices are many, there seem to be many of these coming on the market all the time.
When I received my G2L I was very pleased BUT I WANTED MORE. I ordered a Malkoff m60 q5 drop in. This is a real winner it doesn't use a reflector but an optic....Very nice. There are others some may even be brighter You need to research what is available.
There are other options. you can get a turbo head and led based globe for that. I don't remember what they are called but the turbo head reflector is very much larger than a stock p60 or P61.
Oh that is another option. The P91 globe is puts out right around 200 lumens. It is very nice and bright.
So yes there are lots od options.
One of my favorites is a 6p with a detonator extender, turbohead and the brightest globe available from surefire to fit. It is very nice.
There are a couple of companies making drop in replacement for the surefire turbo head globes which are much brighter and cheaper.
So have at it!! Have fun.

Maybe poster should have clarified, then. A recommendation like that without context makes it look like he wasn't reading carefully.
