Interesting approach. A lens/reflector would have been a nice touch, as you could see the yellow plastic was glowing pretty strongly.

:D

Nice, BUT: Ugg at the battery setup. 8S with at least 4 different types of 18650 cells is yelling to the heavens for trouble, especially as you also have quite a bit of current.

Especially since most of those look like unprotected batteries and since they are just connected "direct drive" without a driver to limit current draw you are asking for trouble. Also I'd be curious to see if that cheap ebay led can put out an actual 8000 lumens, I would have gone with a bridgelux led, you can get ones that put out 9000 lumens. I have one but so far haven't gotten around to building a power supply that can put out 34 volts at 2.8 amps.

Thumbs up for the insanely bright flashlight though, just be carefull....

The Taskled hbflex is pushing up to 50v @ 3a with levels and is a boost driver so you can use less batteries (up to 24v). A 5s Lipo pack is ideal to get some runtime.

The video makes a false claim regarding its 100w led (array) being the worlds most powerful. You can get Citizen COB leds that claim 17600 lumens, (probably 14000 at 85c) assuming their literature is true. They consume 184 watts.

Welp, this is pretty crazy! :D

Also worth noting that LED has dropped in price to $53.20 according to DX right now.
