I have been looking for 808 pump diodes for repair and experimenting and I found some on Ebay. They are sold by [email protected] with prices of $15.00 for the 200 mW size and $30.00 for the big one. Add $10 shipping.

I got one to rebuild a dead Leadlight and with all the tweaking, it outs only 15 mW with the new diode. It put out about 30 before. That's a sample of one diode ...... At present I can't recommend them.

I asked Tony for a little discount on a quantity of 8 diodes to try and was informed that they do not allow discounts for quantities like this. Guess I'll keep looking. The price should come down someday.

I've been looking for some of the same diodes for the same purpose and haven't had much luck. Roithner has them but it doesn't seem to be cost effective to get a new diode to repair a leadlight- maybe I'll just keep getting $40 leadlights and mod them until they're just good for parts.

Be careful on e-bay, some sellers show leadlghts in their ads and send other makes of laser. I had a bad exprence with this recently.

I've been looking for a good price on diodes only so we can fix our fu's :) but prices are still too high. This vendor has an OK diode but the analysis is based on a sample of ONE. I asked for a better sample at a "discount' price for maybe a GB but Tony says no go.
The diode I got with all the tweaking got a dead Leadlight back to about 10 mW. Too many variables and too small a sample to determine their product quality.

Mike,

What about getting "inexpensive" green lasers off e-bay and stripping the diode out to use in our screwed up lasers?? It seems cheaper than payiong Tony $40 for one diode...

Steve -- It's those "inexpensive" lasers I'm trying to fix UP !!! The place you sent to me is more expensive than Tony. If I get several, Shipping costs are spread out.

Also, that lathe isn't a high precision machine but I am able to hold to 0.001" with it.

Hi Mike,

I found the web site for nLight corp - the guys who supply diodes for some of the big name players. You may want to contact them if you haven't already. I didn't see a price list. http://www.nlight.net/index.html
I just sent them an e-mail about prices and minimum orders - hopefully it will generate something useful - like 532 nM!!!:grin2:
I'll keep you up to date when I hear more.

Same problem here.

My China sources quote high output but little certified testing or documentation. US sources with low proces have low outputs..guaranteed. A Asain sample buy gets a 40% IR dirty low power sub ~20mW regardless if you buy 20, 50, 80,100+...!ugh

Someone has to have domestic 808's or completed 532nm in the $100 / 100mW range.

Or we can find a cheap Pen, replacement DVD-R/W or other Can diode that is moddable and add the components and build'em out. Plenty of sources for bodies, optics and APC with Regulator PCB's.

...most of the US discreet component suppliers come from the Red side so we can surely apply these parts to build our own "greenies"...

I've built DVD diodes into defunct greenies and they are not to be
trifled with. Junction voltages are high enough to sometimes drive DIRECTLY with 2 e2 cells !! The beam isn't as visable but they burn baby
