'96 Integra headlamps

We recently purchased a '96 Acura Integra, which takes 9005/9006 lamps for the headlights. Are these headlights suitable for 9012 lamps, or should I just stick some Xtreme Vision 9006s in it and call it a day?

Also, being such a small car, I'd like to put daytime running lights on it. How are Philips' DRLs? They seem to be much better priced then the Hella equivalents.

The 9012/9011 upgrade works well in those headlamps. Make sure the lamps (especially the lenses) are in perfect condition. If they're clouded up, replace them with new genuine Honda parts -- "polishing" the lenses makes the problem worse, and aftermarket headlamps are junk.

Philips DRLs are very good, or you could do it without adding any new lights to the car with one of these.

Yikes. No-to-very-little yellow, but definitely hazed. Welcome to Glareville, population: 1996 Integra.

I've certainly seen much worse, but by the time headlamps are deteriorated to a degree visible to casual observation, they are pretty badly off at the optical level. You would do yourself a very big favor to get new lamps, because it's not just the lens that degrades. The reflector, which is very near the hot bulb, degrades progressively with time.

There shouldn't be any disadvantages in this vehicle unless your lenses are in bad shape-- they will cause enormous amounts of glare for other drivers. With the original spec bulbs, there will already be a lot of glare for other drivers, but the HIR2 in the low beam will result in even more glare, and perhaps not improve your own vision enough to "justify" the upgrade. The high beams, being used only without other traffic, would be fine for the upgrade (but new lamps would still be helpful).

I attempted to pick up a set of Phillips 9012 bulbs on ebay :sigh: and was unimpressed with the improvement.

I'm sure my bulbs are knockoffs, and will buy from candepower next time


I'm not sure if it is worth purchasing new OEM $200 headlamps for a car of such minimal value that rarely gets driven at night, and never in adverse conditions. (Mine is a DD commuter with 300k miles and no clearcoat)
