Just wondering, what is the best AA light out there in general? 1 AA, 2 AA, any AA? Drop-in-sandwiches included. I have a MM WO sandwiche and I simply LOVE it. Anything that can compare to it?

I had a SL Jr. Lux that's a real Luxeon lottery winner, with a perfectly-tinted beam. My favorite light. It's been "borrowed" or I've lost it at work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I'm hoping to get a TnC Key-Lux AA when they're available.

The ARC LSH-P or ARC LSHF-P with the 2AA body is the "best" AA light. You could add modified ARC LS lights with 2AA bodies and the LSH-P, LSH-S, LSL-S to the list, but IMHO the LSH-P is the best of the ARC LS series.

The TNC Key-Lux 1AA is also a very nice light.

I have had most if not all of the Sandwiches. My favorite is the BB750 Lux3 "T". I just bought 4 MadMax Lite Sandwiches for gifts and these were nice and white with great runtimes and less heat. I might buy some MM Lite Sandwiches for my self.

If you want a "best" quality light that can compare to your Sandwich in brightness, you might want a ARC LS mod with a boost in brightness. Litfuse and a few of the other guys do this mod.

I just got my EL XM-3 (2AA) and it outthrows my LSH-P with a similar beam. It's bigger and heavier, maybe too much so, but for 39 bucks for a Lux 3 light, it's a great deal and a great light....and I know he has some in stock.

I dont think I will go for Arc lights. Too expensive. I want to stay under 80$. Does anyone do mods that turns any light into a great one? (still using AA's?)

The ARC LS lights are hard anodized and waterproof. They also have very efficient drivers.

If you are satisfied with the MiniMag as a host, I don't think you can do better than a MiniMag with Sandwich from The Sandwich Shoppe. At least not for $80.

I think the Streamlight Junior Luxeon is great for the $30 price, but I prefer a MiniMag with a Sandwich because the Sandwiches have more efficient electronics and can have better Luxeons. The Streamlight does have a warrantee though.

There was a light called the "Stop Light" that used Sandwiches and ran off of either 1AA or 2AA.. CNC_Dan made them. You might be able to find one if you run an add in B/S/T. I don't know if it's what you want or not. If you do a search for "Stop light" newer than 2 years, you'll find more information.

Since you said "any AA", how about a Streamlight Propolymer 4AA 7LED? Runs forever, great flood (but with plenty of imperfections and floaties), built for abuse, and easy on the wallet. Not much to dislike. My wifewoman stole mine, so I bought another that lives on the floor next to our bed. Along with about 7 other flashlights.

best regards

I agree the Streamlight 4AA 7LED is a good light. Other AA lights I like are the Princeton Tec-Tec 40, CMG Infinity & Infinity Ultra/Ultra-G, ARC AA. The Princeton Tec Yukon HL and Corona are my favorite AA headlamps.

I thought the question was about the "best" AA and one that could compare to a MM+ Sandwich. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

You can't beat the UK 4AA eLED for the price (still $20, I think, from www.brightguy.com). It takes 4 AAs and will run for 11 - 13 hours at a regulated constant brightness.

The Streamlight Luxeon Junior is nice, too. Brighter than the UK, and similar in form factor to a Mini-Mag, so it will fit in most of the same holsters.

davidra suggested the Elektrolumens XM-3. I have one also, was a bit underwhelmed by the brightness and the overall fit and finish, but it IS my brightest AA light, is built like a tank, and offers (as I recall) approximately 2 hours of fairly constant brightness. It also looks like a Surefire on steriods.

I have all three of these, use them on a regular basis, and would recommend any of them. Or, to give the advice you will certainly encounter around here, get them all!

hmmm well Ive been looking at the Gerber LX 3.0 Nice output and works on AA's. Just no regulation. Is it worth what its worth? perhaps after I buy it, I can get it modded to be regulated?

I like the old style CMG Infinity Ultra G. Tough as a tank, and long battery life. The Arc AA is excellent as well. I just ordered a UK 4AAeLed, and hope it will be one of my favorites. I want to order the TnC Key-Lux AA. I hope they will be back in production soon. It seems like winner. We'll see.

I think it's a great light. I use it as my walk-the-dog light because it has outstanding throw. I love the fit and finish, as well as the heft and solid feel to it and the color...

Lack of regulation doesn't bother me. It's gonna be my NiMH light when the alkalines go. Trouble is, the alkies last a long time it seems in this light. It has dimmed but is still useful...this light is definitely worthwhile.

It should be noted that Lithium cells (and to a degree NimH) act somewhat like regulators.

I have a 2AA portable CD player. With Alkalines, it'll start doing funky stuff after two CDs. With NimH, it'll run 4-5 Cds, then when it does go it's like a light switch.

I figure almost any light that dims quickly on Alk will benefit greatly from the use of NimH.

My fav 2AA light for now and perhaps ever, is a Minim*g with a Lambda LUXIII drop in. AWESOME! light for +- 2hrs. And I keep NimH charged and ready for the CD player anyway...

Big_Ed,

Could you let us know what you think of the UK 4AAeLed when you get it? I just received mine and am not to thrilled with it's beam. I just want to know if there all like mine or if I got a lemon.

Thanks.

MLong,

I assume you're talking about beam color? I just got my UK 4AA eLed about two or three weeks ago and it's got a really nice white beam. This is my first luxeon light so all I can compare it to are my other regular LED lights. It makes my other LED's look really blue and it makes my incan. lights look yellow. I think I've heard one other person complain about the beam color of the UK 4AA eLed. He said it was a greenish color. I guess with any luxeon light, it's a lottery.

Ok, well I might go for the Key lux. just 1 AA, brighter than a mag with AA's HA III and small. Everyone think it is a good choice?
