Have a 2D Maglite with a LMSA201 Magstar Xenon bulb.

Was in a discount chain store, and saw a magnifying glass for A$1.49, that had a 50mm lens. Claimed 2x or 3x magnification - forgoten already, TBH.

Upon getting it home, after verifying that it did indeed magnify as claimed, and noted that it is bi-convex and looks symmetrical.

Popped it into the above 2D Maglite, it sits in there like it was made for it.

And it's a lot of fun.

Remember that trick we did as kids when we burned paper, grass etc with a magnifying glass and the sun?

Similarly, the magnifying glass has a definite focal length (about 8") at which there is a nice natural hotspot. When you hold the torch at that distance from an object, and focus the reflector at the same distance, you get an incredibly bright little hotspot. With brighter torches, it may help start fires...

I'm not saying it has any practical use, but it's certainly cheaper than getting a Borofloat, UCL or aspheric posted out, and gives you the kind of enjoyable flashlight silliness I love.

Try it.

Stop Press:

I have transferred this magnifying lens into my 4C RoP.

It's staying there. The results are just wonderful to my eyes - the hotspot is magnified, lifting the apparent brightness even further.
