Anyone who has read a couple of reviews on the PrincetonTec Attitude (or owns one) will know about the 'problem' with the light leaking back through the transluscent body into the user's eyes.

I was just thinking, why not just buy it in red? For one thing, the amount of light leaking backwards is pretty small to begin with, but if it were red in addition to that, it shouldn't bother the user at all.

What do you all think of my theory? Does anyone have a red PT Attitude? Is there anyone who has used both of them in the darkness with dark-adjusted vision?

Good thought. The red seems to work the best at stopping the light.A easier fix would be just to use a rage body as they are not translusent

the red does appear least offensive. doesnt bother me at all.

however, the yellow and black bodies seemed to have a lot of backspill--annoying. i have a major dislike for backspill.

so i painted the body near the head with black quick-dry krylon. problem solved.

of course, a rage body would be fine as well!

Before I bought my Attitude, I was worried about the backspill and it's effects on night vision based on reviews I had read. I was thinking from my astronomy perspective, where night vision is everything. But then it came to me - "Hey, you're using a FLASHLIGHT dummy. How concerned can you be about night vision???!!!" Once I accepted this, I have no problems with the backspill. Now I even think it looks kindof neat. The "forward spill" is much worse on night vision than any backspill ... at least if you're illuminating things somewhat close to you - like a trail through the woods. My Attitude is blue, and maybe the backspill from other colors is more offensive.

I also have a blue Attitude, and personally, I don't find the backspill to be offensive. But for those that do, a thumb over the offending part, black tape, or black spray paint are viable options.

The Attitude is intended to illuminate a "subject" at close distance. The reflected light from what you are shining will always be greater than the backspill.

Yes, now that you all mention it, the backspill doesn't bother me in actual usage, just in theory. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Unless you're holding the light at eye level (which I don't do often) you don't even notice it. I will take mine out in the woods tonight for a proper break-in...

Yup. I really agree.

The backspill issue is more of a theoretical problem than a real issue. I have a yellow one and it has not been a problem even though I use the Attitude for over 95% of all of my flashlight uses. Had it about a year and REALLY love it! I even own a couple of Rage bodies and have never even bothered to think about swapping bodies.

I have a red Attitude and the backspill is dim enough to serve as a handy "light's on" reminder. Not offensive at all in practice for the previously mentioned reasons. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
