Well, as I've read here somewhere, you can get just a bit more out of the 1AAA ckt, so I tried it. Here's the light we all know so well.
I removed resistor R1 and soldered in a jumper. Then I replaced the LED with a Red/Blue/White LED. The replacement white LED I used is rated at 12,000 mcd (no notable difference to the eye) and all have a 20 deg beam. Sorry, no current readings after the mod. 2 feet from garage wall resting on the garden hose.
The red light in the middle is a minimag I modified with a Ram tailswitch and 3 LED's running on 2 AA NiMh. Not much difference up that close but it's real power comes in as the distance gets farther.
