Hi All,

I am a newbie, and I typically carry a MiniMag Light (2 AA Batteries) with me, and am looking to upgrade.

I considered the SureFire E2d but decided that because of the fact I want to take it on airplane flights, it might not be the beest choice.

That brings me to my question.

If I bought an E2e, I'd either want the Satin Grey finish, or the (apparently now discontinued) Black, as looks wise I do not much like the other color option.

Is there a big difference in the durability between the Grey and Black colors?

Also, it seems the handle of my friends SureFire E2d get rather hot after roughly three minutes? Is that typical, and would that happen with the E2e as well?

The rare E2e Black is a collector item and command a hefty price when is found.
You are better off with the E2e Hard Anodized, if you are concerned about too much heat by the lamp you can switch to the 25 lumen lamp, called NM02 (LOLA) for Low Output Lamp Assembly.
Or you can go to the Wine Light II which used the LOLA and come in a very attractive wine color. (it is the same E2e model with different color and a LOLA lamp) or the Outdoorsman another E2O with LOLA.

Take a look in the Buy/Sell/Trade discussion. There have been a few black E2, E2E, and E2D's offered over the past two weeks at fair prices.
 
Juancho is right, the MN02 lamp is extremely nice for you pupose: it's got a tight beam, and its hotspot is very close to that of the MN03(the 60 lumens lamp). Bonus: the mn02 last 2.5 hours, and i have been using my last set of batteries continously for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the intensity of the beam has only gone down a little bit. You cannot go wrong with it.

Thanks so very much for helping me out with suggestions, as it, to make a bad flashlight pun, 'brightened' up my day.

Based on the info provided to me, I have made the decision to purchase a Surefire E2e, and as good fortune would have it, I was able to buy one, which should ship out tomorrow, for an affordable price, in the color of Black!

Now, my next set of questions are what accessories should I purchase for it?

My list is...
1) Long Running Lamp (MN02)

2) V82 Quick-Detach Holster (V82)

3) Z50 Lanyard System for Executive Series (Z50)

4) Box of 12 SureFire 123A Lithium batteries (SF12-BB)

Having said that, is there a better SureFire holster than the one listed above? And is there anything else worth looking into that I have not mentioned?

I have several of the E2E's and as far as the grey or black, neither the tough HAIII, but the grey seems to hold up better for extended use in the pocket. Just my two cents.
 
I prefer the Z60 instead, but this is not directly compatible with the E2e. You will need to thread a small split ring into the lanyard attach point on the E2e's clip, then you can clip the Z60 to it. The Z60 has the nice quick-release clip.

The quick detach holsters are quite well done. I have a larger one (V25 with metal belt clip) for the 6P and I like it.

And a personal favorite: the KL1 LED head conversion. This will give you a nice low-powered LED with around 15-20 lumens, and 4+ hours of runtime at full power with many more hours of reduced power as the batteries tail off.

Take a look here for good deals on good batteries. I recently picked up the pelican case/battery combo. Good price and removal of one battery provides room for a spare Surefire E2 lamp.

Guys/Girls,

Another question, and please excuse my ignorance as I am pretty much a newbie.

Is there, in your estimations, a noticeable difference in durability Hard Anodized and the other colors of Satin Grey and Black.

I ask as I truly prefer most of the things I won to be either Silver or Black, but if there is a real difference in the durability, I might consider the Hard Anodized.

One last thing, for now, is what is the current going price on the Black version, as I picked it up for what I think was a fair price. Now I just need for it to be delivered.

But if I go with the Hard Anodized, I might sell the Black, so that if I buy accessories, such as the LED setup, it will all match color wise.

There is an extremely large difference in durability between HA III and normal anodizings like Black or Silver.

Just take a very sharp knive and try to scratch a HA III surface. You won't be able to. Unless you use exteme force and hit the surface with the tip of the knive, you can't damage it.

If you use a normal anodized surface like the silver one you will immediately have a deep scratch in it.

Perhaps you don't believe this, don't worry, I dind't believe it myself until I tried it out on my Arc LSH. :-)

Welcome to CPF. Just wanted to alert you to a better holster for the E2e. If you are going to keep it clean (regular head and No filter cover), SOEgear.com makes an "E2" holster that is superior to anything else that I have seen. BUT!! If you ever plan on putting a filter on it, a KL-1 or KL-4 head, or a filter OVER an LED head, you really should get their "A2" holster. This is the only holster that I use for any E2x body. I only use the E2 holster for my E1e/KL1/F04. SOEgear.com has them in black or O.D. They have quick release velcro on the belt loop and closure flap and are of superior quality. I have never seen better. Hope this helps.

If I were you, I would get:

E2O (basically an E2E with 25 lumen bulb in place of 60 lumens, and a longer (less secure but more clothing freindly) clip) You can always get the the stronger lamp/bulb later, if you like. If you think you want both bulbs, choose the model based on the clip. Then again, a different clip may be just a call to Surefire away. Definitely get the hard anodize - it's worth it the first time you "saw" through someone's minimag, and in any case the wierd sorta OD drab color grows on one quickly. It's darn near a trademark SF color. It makes the light special, industrial, military, and cool. It also makes it durable has heck.

SC3 - battery holder. You do NOT want to have lithium cells shorting against keys/whatever. Easy to carry, keeps the batteries and spare bulb organized. When these lights die, they tend to die quickly...so have spares at hand when the light is critical.

A box of batts. These lights eat batts, but if you're out and you don't have any on hand your only alternative is go spend $10 on a pair of batts at walmart - not a good thing. Buy the batts in advance, keep them on hand, and you'll use the light and enjoy your investment. Maybe two boxes.

Personally, I would skip the lanyard. Nice idea when you are using the light very frequently, but most of the time a pain.

Last, but not least, a savings account and financial advisor. You will need both once you get a taste of Surefire, and start getting the gottahavits for the rest of their product line. Before long you can not only rationalize but completely justify an L1, A2, L2, L4, with a clear plan to invade the bigger models.

One last piece of advice: When folks who don't understand quality, and don't understand flashlights ask what you paid for it, just tell them you don't remember and give them the web address. Trying to explain it, especially if you've had any alchohol recently, is a losing battle with most people.
 
Hi All,

A semi update for those interested.

I ordered two SureFire E2e lights. One was the Hard Anodized, and the other is the from what I understand to be rare Color Black.

I decided on the E2e over the E2o as I decided I liked the clip for the E2e best, and if I ever decide to change it up, I could always remove the short clip, and opt for the longer one.

Would anyone know how rare the Black is, and how much it usually sells for?

I also ordered some accessories for now...

3) Maybe an Upgraded Lanyard such as the previously mentioned Z60

4) Another Long Running Lamp (MN02)

5) Another High Output Lamp (MN03)

6) KL1 LED Conversion Head (KL1-HA-WH)

7) KL4 LED Conversion Head (KL4-HA-WH)

Congratulations, you're hooked /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif take your time and you will build a collection that will be both truly useful and that you can be proud of. I think your shopping list has really tapped into the wealth of options the E2e offers, and you've got the whole range of output options covered.

I cannot agree more on this. While I'm proud of my flashlight collection, I have to somehow shield them from my non-flashaholic friends... the price issue is always popping up, and I seemed crazy in their eyes for buying "so expensive" lights... an addiction difficult to be cured, isn't it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is the problem as well. Seldom do I ever pull out the lights in front of people and I carry my C2 concealed in a pocket rather than on the belt as it should be. I have too many people asking what is that, and the most heretical question of all: "Why would you need a light?"

Because I wasn't born with Gen 3 NV eyeballs, that's why. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif
 
Here is a box I made, and a kit I put together.
It is an E2O, with difusser, and red lens. Clicky tailcap modified, lanyard underneath. I have KL1, KL4, E2C with C series bezel. MN02, MN03, P60, and P61 LA's. 12 Baterries that will provide 24 hours full power on the KL1 head. Plus 2 more in the E20.
