A2 Aviator - Output question - 4 Flats & Round Body

I have owned a couple of the newer round body A2's over the last few years.. The A2 bug bit again and I managed to pickup up a "4 flats" model from Ebay... It seems dimmer than the others I have owned so I picked up one of the LF HO-A2 bulbs.. Now its about equal with my E2... I have been searching for a few days through old post because I thought I had read about a difference in output between old and new.. But, I give up looking and will let the resident A2 experts chime in..

I don't remember exactly but I seem to remember reading that the newer A2 runs a little longer in regulation because it has a lower cut off point than the older models. As far as output, I have never heard such a thing but I wouldn't be surprised if it drives the bulb a little harder too.

In 2005-2006, when we did the Light Meter Benchmark Testing we had LSI labs, out of [FONT=&quot]Scottsdale[/FONT][FONT=&quot], Arizona [/FONT] do lux, CRI, CCT, Peak light intensity, and Lumen testing on the passaround lights. One of the lights was Don's (McGizmo) A2. The A2 was tested without the LED ring. The result was 68 lumens with fresh CR123's after 2 minutes of runtime. The A2's lamp had been changed out a few months before the testing, and the lamp had not been subjected to prolonged runtimes, for the lux testings of our various light meters.

Not sure if there was a change in the A2's voltage regulated circuit for longer runtime or output, since the Benchmark testing.
