I have a friend who uses his A2L without his clip, sure enough, it fits!
The sealing wedge to keep water out needs trimming, but it's still watertight.
It's a lot nicer carrying bezel down!

Is surefire's clip flange standard?

Ha-Ha! I just did this too my A2-YG, and was thinking tonight of posting about it! Yes, it defintiely makes it much nicer for carrying. And yes, the "flange" on the clips are pretty standard. I usually swap them based on my preferred carry for a particualr light. Like swapping the short clip that came with my L4 for the long clip, etc. al.

I was thinking about trying to find an E1B clip just because it's cool how short they are, but bezel up would be a necessity unless you want 3 inches of aviator hanging out of your pocket.

Finally dropped my only A2 today..it was virgin for like 8 months even being EDC'd

I've been carrying my A2 with the A2L clip for ... uh, since they started letting you ask for replacement clips. It took a little while for the replacements to make it to Surefire's service department, but it was totally worth it - I sheared off two original A2 clips, one of these events resulting in an intimate encounter with pavement.

I don't bother with the plastic bit; the A2L clip seems to be designed so it doesn't need it.

My A2 already leaks a little anyway, I wanted to do everything I could to keep it watertight..

My 6P on the other hand has been dropped to the bottom of a bay twice
