AA / 18650 thrower?

Greetings!

am currently investigating throwy torches, and thus far have gleaned that xpg type LEDs coupled with a smooth reflector and or some kind of lens is the answer.

obviously given I'm looking at aa and or 18650 types, these aren't massively powerful spotlights, but would certainly like to narrow down, if you'll excuse the pun, certain specs and or brands which should deliver the best throw from a relatively small platform.

i previously owned an led lenser, and liked the focus option, however it was lacking in most other areas, although recently looked at the mte h8 which has an astonishingly cool circular beam pattern.

thoughts please!

Welcome to CPF Ejcb! The issue here is small reflectors aren't very effective throwers. First off how far do you need to reach out with the light you are looking to buy? If you are looking for a relatively small thrower i would suggest looking at ashperical lights such as ones made by Dereelight. If you are looking for reflector type lights you can check out the Foursevens Maelstrom MMS but it wont throw as far as a aspherical light.

The armytek predator sounds like what you are looking for. Its a single 18650 sized light with an XP-G2 emitter with a smooth reflector. I can attest to the throw of this flashlight.

I went with a 4xAA Sunwayman D40A in cool white for a medium sized thrower that runs on common batteries that I can recharge.

Other 4xAA lights are the Jetbeam SRA-40, NiteCore EA4 and the EagleTac GX25A3 (3xAA), if you want to go that route.
