Pardon me for asking a noob question but is there a rechargeable flashlight out there which is compatible with normal AA batteries? So that when the rechargeable battery stick is flat and there is no power source nearby, any AA batteries could be used. Understand this could be done by using any AA flashlight with rechargeable AA batteries but direct dock charging is not possible. Basically I am looking for a flashlight version of this phone:

See Rule #3 Do not Hot Link images. Please host on an image site, Imageshack or similar and repost – Thanks Norm

It's hard to figure out how you can recharge a battery pack but not AA cells them selves? The only option i can see for you is to get a light that accepts 14500 lions and can also use AA like the xeno e03. But you will still need docks for batteries there is nothing i see that will plug directly into the light. There might be rechargeable light that has a 2x 14500 stick but i don't know if 2x AA will even power them.

Hmm, the xeno eo3 is new to me. Will definitely check it out thanks.Meanwhile, my search continues :D

Most of the "rechargeable" lights I've read about have crappy chargers that will eventually ruin the batteries in the lights unles you are very particular about removing the light as soon as the batteries are charged up. You will be better off getting a light that will run on regular AA batteries, put std (1500 cycle) low self discharge sanyo Eneloops in it and you are away. The MAHA C9000 charger is preferred by many (but not all) CPFers.

I would say that this is a no-go. You either need to be ok with recharging your AAs in a normal charger (vs plugging something into the light itself), OR be ok with a battery pack that you won't be able to remove.

In that case, you can find lights that have lithium ion battery packs in them (better energy density, no self discharge) with a cheapo charger that you plug directly into the flashlight. I am not a huge fan of these since you will fumble the charger, the LiIon batteries poop out after a few years, or the crappy chargeer ruins the batteries.

Been away for some time and what a surprise this year. Someone finally make something similar!

But the battery stick for the Nitecore MH2A is quite rare. Does anyone has come across any similar kind of battery?

But be sure to note that none of the MH series lights can actually charge (1.2V) AA batteries. The ones that are sold with the lights are Li-ion cells.
