Hello again CPFers!
I need your help to find a good hiking headlamp. Criteria as follows:
I don't know if it's just me, but headlamps at a decent price seem hard to find (at least in Canada). Most of the more affordable ones are AAA-powered. Anyways, let me know what you find!
I need your help to find a good hiking headlamp. Criteria as follows:
- MUST use AA batteries: All my other gear runs on AAs so I don't want to have to carry multiple types of batteries. Also, being able to ration say 5 remaining AAs between all my devices comes in handy when things turn sour.
- Emitter: LED only.
- Lumens: Preferably a two-mode (high/low) light, around 70-200 lumens high mode, and 15-30 lumens low mode.
- Modes/UI: Again, high/low modes preferred, but wouldn't mind a medium as well. SOS feature acceptable. Red LED feature acceptable. Preferably no strobe feature. Don't need momentary on feature, and either forward or reverse clicky is fine.
- Beam pattern: Looking for mainly a spot beam with some spill (kind of like the MM 2AA LED). A range of about 30 metres is enough.
- Runtime: Longer is better. Not too picky here, but as long as I can get at least 4-5 hours per AA cell on the low mode, that's fine.
- IPX: At least IPX-5.
- Weight: Lighter is better. I would say a max of 250 grams.
- Cost: Budget of about $25-40, either locally or shipped to Canada.
- Brand: With these criteria, I don't think I'll be able to afford any of the higher end brands that CPFers love, so the light manufacturer doesn't matter to me. As long as it's fairly reliable (i.e. none of the DealeXtreme "specials").
