Im a noob at flashlights my first light is a fenix ld10 which runs off of 1 AA battery and i was wondering which type of battery is the best for run time, output, and overall performance. or maybe it could be multiple batteries as in the case of the 18650

thank you for your time and advice

For your LD10 if you want to save some money and use rechargeable AAs I would recommend either LSD (low self discharge) NiMH or NiZn batteries. Each requires a different charger but they'll save you from having to buy alkaline primaries or lithium primaries.

18650 is a pretty sizeable cell. Think two fat CR123a stacked on top of each other (slightly shorter though). It's also Li-ion so depending on whether it's LiCoO4 or LiFePO4 the voltage is going to be 4.2V or 3.6V off the charger (Not supported AFAIK by the LD10). If you can find a AA light that supports Li-ion, AA-sized Li-ion cells are called 14500. The numbers that make up the name corresponds to the diameter and length of the battery.
