How is it possible to make 1 LED change to three colors??
I just purchased 2 AAA RGB's from ARC. EYE CANDY ... Love it!

The LED used in the Arc AAA RGB has three dice (light emitting chips) that emit red, green, and blue; and the LED also has an IC in it that makes each die light up independently of one another. All of the "magic" happens within the LED casing itself. As long as you feed 3.6 volts or so to the LED, all three LED dice inside will have enough voltage to do their thing. And that's what the Arc does - an inverter in the head changes the 1.5 volts from the AAA cell to the at least 3.6 volts the LED wants.

The Arc AAA RGB makes a nice Christmas tree topper; that's one way you can use it. Somewhere around here, I have a picture of it being used exactly for that. If I can find it, I'll post it here.
So, it seems like the RGB is mainly used as decoration, or possibly a "need help" signal?
Is there actually any situation where having strobing lights of three colors is advantageous for lighting up anything?

It's not intended as a practical illumination tool. It just looks cool. There's a version of the Photon coin cell light with the RGB led. People at clubs clip them onto their clothes and dance with them flashing and the effect is pretty neat.

Might also make for a good distress beacon?
Somebody seeing those strobing colors from a distance would be inclined to see what the heck was going on?
