Hi everyone,
The AB Mapasaurus family got another new member over the weekend, the AB Touch Phoenix. This is a variation on the AB mapasaurus family theme, this time incorporating a different base. This light was built as a custom project for a CPF member with some specific requirements. The light is intended as a combination between a bright LED-based touchlamp for night-time room lighting duty and also a close-quarters task light.
The Touch Phoenix uses a touchlight base and has a shorter neck than the rest of the Phoenix family. Both light sources in the Touch Phoenix are the excellent Novigear 7-LED heads, with modified (ie: milled) LEDs for a more diffused beam. Notice the nice centre hotspot and wide, well-diffused corona.
Here are a couple of photos:
Runs on 3 AA batteries and super for use as a task light, map light, reading light...
Like all of the AB Mapasaurus family (see the link in my signature for all the various models, information, etc.) these are available on a custom basis, can easily be built modified for your specific purpose, etc. Price for the AB Touch Phoenix is $US 40 includes airmail anywhere in the world.

p.s. - some details about the myth of the Phoenix:
The phoenix was a fabulous mythical Arabian bird, said to be as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry. It was said that only one phoenix existed at any one time, and it was very long-lived - no ancient sources gave it a life-span less than 500 years. As its end approached, the phoenix made a nest of aromatic branches and spices, set it on fire, and was consumed in the flames. From the ashes (according to some sources, from the midst of the flames) miraculously sprang a new phoenix...
