ABC lamp upgrade

So I recently picked up this beauty of a light thinking it would be an idea candidate for an LED upgrade. I am shooting for the most incandescent looking light from this lamp, output is not a large priority. I'm thinking a 3K XM-L emitter driven at about 1amp should do the trick. The light originally ran on 4 D cell batteries, a 6v platform with D cell Ah capacity should do just fine. Some sort of red SMT LEDs should do the trick for the red blinking tail. I'll post updates as I progress, I'm thinking a custom heatsink will be necessary to get the XM-L to the light height in the reflector.

If you are only going to drive an XM-L at 1 amp why not go for an XP-G? Also if you went for the XP-G you could get a high CRI (at 3k) which should look nicly like an incan I think.

Do you plan to use a multi mode driver?

I think my original thinking was driving an XM-L at one amp would keep it low stress but given the space I could certainly machine a heat sink to suit. Any recommendations on where to find high CRI LEDs in very few quantities? I was planning on just a one mode driver.

I got a high CRI from illumination supply but they don't seem to have them on PCBs any more, they just have a bare emiter:

shipping was like $13 international (to canada), I think it was in the 6-10 area for USA.

I think there may be a european place that sells them but since shipping would again have been a similarly high amount I didn't look into it enough to remember.

I looked at a few of the specs and I guess the XM-L would be a little brighter and need a little lower voltage (less power) than the XP-G. At one amp, aproximatly 2.95 volts vs 3.35 volts and 275 lumens vs 220 lumens. Cutter sells 3000k XM-Ls on PCBs but I have never looked anywhere else for them.
