Hi everyone,
Im pretty new here, and pretty much astounded at the amount of different lights therre are around, my vocabulary of flashlight brandnames was limited to Fenix, surefire, maglite, and some others on the Brightguy page.

Anyway, i get the feeling i might be missing out on some of the truely ,must-have lights so...

while there are many different brands of lights, all around same strength, all milspec type III anodized, etc, what do you feel is one (or a few) light/s thats is an absolute must have, everyone "in the know" has one kinda thing...?

like in my opinion, the Fenix P1D-CE is one of those....

Regards

Crenshaw

First on my list is the NovaTac 120-P, pricey but a damn fine light.

Arc AAA-P is also a "must have" - http://www.arcflashlight.com/

Welcome to CPF!!!!

"In the know" is a very subjective thing!

Your choice of L1D CE is a good one, I might venture L2D CE is as necessary at the moment - the moment won't last long!!

Others I suppose for me would be:

ORB RAW or NS - your tiny wow light.
ARC LS - an old classic that just keps going - BST only I'm afraid.
Surefire A2 - This seems to be particularly good all rounder - very much loved.
Surefire L1 - the new model may be unmissable.
Novatac EDC 120 - very popular!

And then you've got your mods - the sky's the limit!

Take a stroll around these forums and see what takes your fancy -

Spend as little money on food as you can - buy more torches!!

Be lucky...

PS - CFU you beat me to it! And I forgot the ARC AAA-P!!! Doh!
Crenshaw - +1 on the AAA-P.

Cheers.

thanks CFU :)

when you evaluate a light, its based on Lumens, build quality...anything else?

i think ill add that to the first post...

and whats the max output of the Arc-AA P ?

Thanks

Hi Crenshaw, for me it's quality first above all else, then price, UI, lumens/output etc.

The Arc AAA-P will only put out around 8 lumens for 5 hours or so, and although there are lights that cost less and put out far more lumens there none that are built like it IMO.

Check this thread for an idea of quality and durability...

Unless you are purchasing lights as a collector or just for fun, consider what you will be using the lights for. What is a "must have" for me might be a total waste of money for you, and then you might miss out on something that would truly be of value to you. Around here you can drop a whole bunch of cash on new lights in VERY little time!

Ok gang, I know....That's blasphemy! There is no such things as a waste of money on lights.....But you all know what I mean.....

If I fell on hard times I would sell some lights but never part with these..........

TiPD-S
TiPD Mule
Seoul Modded HDS
SF M6
Orb NS RAW
Photon Keychain

EDIT: "I know nothing :p"

EDIT2: OK I'd concede on and A2 also even though I don't have one.

Hello,

Some of the must haves are already listed :grin2::

1. ARC AAA (it's cult following is based on it's qualities)
2. Peak McKinley high power with red leds and a momentary switch. (don't ask why, just get one and see for yourself:twothumbs)
3. Inova Bolt 2AAA (just a good light that's easy to edc)
4. Surefire L4 or Surefire L2 (the "wall of light" remains beautiful and spectacular to this day. But use rechargeable cells, if everyone does, Surefire will listen up one day... I hope:poke:)
5. LedLenser, whatever model (to compare with your other lights, so you know your other lights are far better )
6. Fenix L2D premium rebel 100 (so you can see for yourself what all the fuss is about;). You will like it)
7. Peak Mediterranean or Surefire E1L (because you will also "need" a "best quality" edc light that runs on one RCR123 cell. You can also consider the Novatac or the old (or new) ARC LS, which fulfill the same purpose. All are the same pricerange (beautifully expensive ).

Hope this helps :broke: :sigh:

Kind regards,
Joris

A 2-cell Surefire in the C/P/D/G series is a classic.
You can't go wrong with any of the 6P/G2(Z)/Z2/M2/C2 series.

Hmmmm, must have lights.......
Arc-P
Anything McGizmo.
SF L4
Novatac.
I think that that is it for me.

Allow me to redirect your question and refer to different categories of lights one might consider covering, instead of particular lights (of course I can't resist giving examples):

1. a keychain light: ArcAAA is my favorite; Fenix L0D seems really popular too. I don't like coin-celled lights.

2. a main EDC light: small but bright; my favorites are the Arc LS, McGizmo PD-S, Fenix L1D. I won't mention my custom CR2 :nana:

3a. a utility light: usually bigger, brighter, longer runtime, brownie points if they have 2 or more levels - the list is long and it includes the SF U2, SF L1, Gladius, SF A2, Propoly 4AA, Pelican M6, Pila GL2 & GL3

3b. For those times when you need both hands to get a task done. My current favorite is the PT Eos, although the PT Apex is a little more versatile (but larger).

Some people might consider #2 and #3 a single category, depending on what their needs are.

4. Emergency lights: loooong run times and reliable. My favorite is the CMG Infinity line, but the Propoly 4AA ranks up there as well.

Don't forget something from the Eternalight line. Unique and very useful. And, if you can find an old CMG Infinity (standard or ultra) you've got a real tank and one of the originals that many of us got started with.
