Abused 6P

Inspired by this thread (my reply), my 6P after 9 weeks of daily use in an engine room, without any kind of carefulness or regard for the light:

The o-ring and retainer held everything together and kept it watertight. Time for a cleanup and a new lens. :p

I have an inkling the steel retainer actually did more harm than good for the lens. The standard plastic would have had more give, whilst the steel ring puts the lens between a rock and a hard place.

Then again, without the steel ring, the head would definitely be fubar'd. Cheaper to replace the lens than the head.

The dropin is Nailbender's single-mode XM-L with a smooth reflector and potting. Extremely happy with this dropin. Great output, okay battery life relative to the massive output, and decent throw too relative to the large die size of the XM-L. It can also take some punishment, not a single hickup.

The switch is the two-stage switch from the SF Kroma. Without this switch I wouldn't actually use the 6P.

Other than needing a new glass lens, I would say that the light has a lot of character! I like it. :D

An alternative to that drop in would be the same LED with a 3 mode H-M-L with the regular Surefire OEM tail cap switch. You can get to the 3 modes even with the stock Surefire tail cap by twisting quickly and then keeping it on when you reach the desired mode.

I recently had a guy send in a cryos, the ss bezel ring was so badly deformed, it wouldn't unscew without sawing a break in it (which took hours) and even then.

Once removed, the cryos remained true round and the new ring went right on.

True enough, but I really cannot stand that kind of UI. That's why, if I didn't have this switch for the 6P, I would just use my LX2 or one of my A2s instead, despite the lower output.
