Advice in finding a P60 style light

Hello everyone. I am looking for a p60 style light that is good for flood and a wall of light. I need a host and dropin. I have the 18650 cells and charger. This light will be used in the total darkness of a farm.

The best wall of light would be a solarforce L2p with a kerberos quad XP-G dropin. The host is $25, the dropin is $180.

$180 for a drop-in? OUCH. OK budget $30 or less for a complete light. I have the charger and 18650s. :)

I really like my Solarforce L2 and L2P with the 3 mode Ultrafire/Manafont XML dropins. They do have a big hotspot in the huge, very bright, wall of light they put out.

My recommendation if you're going budget would be to buy a quality host first and foremost. I really like my Solarforce L2 and L2P. Get the L2 if you're really broke or just want to play around but if you want top notch quality for $20 there is no better host for the money than the L2P.

Afterwards simply get any XM-L drop in you want and of course it's best to wrap the drop in tightly in aluminum foil to maximize heat dissipation and prolong the life and brightness of the led.

wrapping the dropin is pretty essential with these high-powered LED's which generate a significant amount of heat.
The XM-L will be very bright, but won't be "wall of light" floody. if you want "wall of light" flood, then you'll need either a diffuser or something like an MC-E, SSC-P7 or a SST-50/90 dropin :)

It should be better than all of those except the SST 90.

better how? better as in light output or better as in the beam characteristics of the light?

out of the XM-L, MC-E, P7, SST-50 and SST-90, the XM-L has the smallest emitting surface area and thus the most throw (relatively).

I am looking for a smooth, floody beam with not real hotspot. I have no idea which drop-in to look at....SST, XP-G, XM-L?

the bigger the emitting surface the less throw the light will develop in a given size of reflector.
pick the LED that gives the amount of output that you're looking for and then just pop a diffuser (or scotch tape!) over it and see how it suits you :)

I am very happy with this xml p60 from Dealextreme all for $18.90 delivered in the usual 3-4 weeks. As mentioned by qwertydude and Cyoher AOD the module is not a good fit in the host, but it was easy to fix with instructions from this thread - thanks Norm.

Another vote for the Solarforce L2 as host. Inexpensive and best quality rip-off of the SureFire 6P.

I used to own one. Replacing the bezel ring was easy. A few crude machine-marks on the inside towards the bezel. But it's as good as it gets without using an actual 6P as a host.
