To G2Z or not to G2Z... That is the question /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a 6P with P61 Hola on an M2 head. Relatively heavy put puts out those 120Lumens on an shock isolated hear.

I also have an L4 body and LOTC switch with an E2C coming on the way, I can fit a P61 using an M2 head.

I also have a Z3 coming my way, but only the 100Lu P90 yet.

I also have a LuxIII PR-T DB917 coming my way.

The question is... Do I still need a G2Z to accompany my pistol in tactical and defensive situations?... As of now, what I can see is that its only advantage is its weight and the tactical rubber grip over the above listed. Or does it?

- please don't answer "buy them all", but make it logical and practical.

Thanks.

Johnny.

Johnny,

IMHO you will not find enough good reasons to justify the purchase of the G2z due to the ownership of the 6P with M2 bezel. Yes the G2z is lighter and yes as you observed it does have a grip ring. These two features would be a reason to buy (IF) you didn't have a similar combo at the moment. However, as I see it, the Nitrolon body is the only other advantage to purchase the G2z due to it's ability to resist abrasion damage without too obvious marking.
This is not to say that the G2z has any drawbacks, far from it. I own one and it is one of my favourite lights due to the factors you have already noted. However, if you have basically the same set up (and you do)in the form of the 6P I cant see the point of spending extra money just to duplicate some of the same features?
Of course if it is just down to money and you've got plenty to spare then the G2z would be a worthy addition to any SF collection.

Just my two pence worth!

If you carry a pistol and deploy it then having two compact, light-weight, extremely tough, extremely bright tactical "CombatLights" such as the G2Z with P61 lamp would be a good idea.

If you don't carry the Z3 when you carry a pistol then a smaller, more-light weight G2Z should allow you to carry a CombatLight.

My understanding of a CombatLight is that you should carry them and only use them when in a "tactical" situation (hence why using the High Output Lamp Assemblies is enough runtime for this application). If you need a general EDC flashlight then an E2e or L4 etc would be an additional flashlight to your "tactical" lights.

If you carry the Z3 then you can also consider carrying a G2Z as backup. If you need to discard your Z3 because you need to reload or fix your pistol, the Z3 dies, you have a G2Z on you that is light-weight, compact and on you when you need it.

If you use your pistol for your job then carrying a pair of CombatLights is like carrying extra clips - something you just accept as required, otherwise you can use your EDC flashlight to backup your single CombatLight (such as the Z3 or G2Z) if you just carry a pistol just in case or whatever.

I'm in a bit of a rush this morning, so if I've forgotten something i'll add it later /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif There's been afew threads recently on the g2z that I have posted on as well if you want to search for it (i'll try and find the threads later)

Two possible reasons for the g2z:

Number one: Combat grip allows you to better utilise flashlight grips such as the surefire rogers technique. I don't have a z3 (and don't have the time now to look it up) etc but I know that the g2z's combat grip is fully adjustable, unlike the sf m2.

Number two: In my experience (and I think Al has found this too with his g2z) the polymer is better for a 'carry' light in terms of its comparable shock resistance as well as its light weight, smaller size and its much higher durability in terms of scratch resistance (e.g. if the light drops or if it accidentally touches the pistol during recoil etc...)

If you don't need to carry it every day (I think you will appreciate the decreased size and weight of the g2z), and if you have tried the combat grip using proper techniques and decided that it is not for you, then maybe you don't need the g2z.

I have the g2z and the sf m3, both running HOLA, and if I had only one light, as much as I'd prevent this from happening /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'd choose the g2z as it is much more light and compact, with a comparable light output.

Just my 2 cents...

i recently got a G2Z and i am very happy with it. i am using the standard P60 bulb assembly and the output is very nice. i don't see myself using it much in a *tactical situation*, but for it's compact size and *light-er* weight, i sure give it a thumb up.

I have the G2Z and the Z3. Both are using PILA batteries, the G2Z is fantastic as a true combat light. Using the surefire technique is easy as the light is very "lite" weight and does not affect balance of the handgun. I find the Z3 to be a bit long for the rogers technique. BTW, I also have a standard G2 and carry it less than the Z because the Z is just so much more comfortable to use.
