3.0V CR123 batteries have an undeniable performance edge, but AA batteries are far more universal. I am trying to convert to AA batteries, but I miss the extra bang that CR123 batteries provide.

Not too long ago, I became aware that by disassembling a CRV3 battery (except Energizer brand), you can get two 3.0V, AA-sized batteries. Energizer uses their proprietary 1.5V Lithium cells in series, but everyone else uses two 3.0V cells in parallel. This got me thinking that they must be a fairly standard cell that, for obvious reasons, is primarily aimed at the industrial market and not the consumer market.

I tried a plethora of google combinations, but I finally found these 3.0V Varta LiMnO2 cells in a AA size. They are called CRAA and 14505 cells. They dont seem to have the button top, though. They are made in Germany and are quite pricey.

Does anyone know of an alternate and more affordable source for these cells?
