Headlamps and Aspheric lenses

1. Headlamps - V4 Spikelights

The Spikelights are available again and they are better than ever:

Machined aluminium body with crown glass lenses.


It comes with two beams, a bombproof switch, a programmable interface, plastic brackets, durable 40mm elastic, and Oring seals everywhere for underwater fun.


Same spot beam that made the ahorton lens so famous.


Very Smooth, Neutral Flood.


The 4th version has easily replaced LEDs so I can customise it to suit most dreams.

I like to make the spot with a dedomed XP-E2 (R4) and the flood with a neutral XM-L2 or Nichia219, but it can take any LEDs that fit on a 16mm noctigon / sinkpad board. Plus you can change them later with a screwdriver.

The flood is available with a variety of optics but my favourite is a Ledil-Tina-Diffuse (shown above). It is very usable and very smooth.

Runs on one or two standard 18650 cells in parallel. A flexible cable makes it possible to change the cells one at a time - in front of your face - without the light going off or taking it off your head.

Custom User Interfaces are available or you can make your own if you know how to program an ATTINY microcontroller.

2. Aspheric lenses - 27.2mm.


Fits in most p60 hosts. Check your dimensions. You'll need at least 27.3mm diameter inside your head to be sure.

Search the forum for 'ahorton aspheric' and you'll see where they've been used.

P60 Spacer + Aspheric Lens Kit - Version 3 - 5th batch - Available now!

For use with a 27.2mm lens and a M20x1.0mm threaded pill (the pill can be bought on DX for a few dollars).

(Sadly a lot of the discussion was lost in the crash but I salvaged what I could find)

Version 2 Spacer Kit:

Version 3 kit details:

• Bottom spacer is Sandblasted and black anodised aluminium.
• Slightly narrower than the first version to fit in more hosts.
• Version 3 nolonger includes the front ring. Most hosts don't need this so I have removed it to keep the price down.
• Adjustable. So you'll need to put a drop of glue or thread locker in the threads before adjusting to the perfect focus and leaving it to cure. Very easy to do without any skill. It should also open up the possibility to use it with more LEDs than just the XR-E, XP-E2, XP-E, XP-G2, XP-G, XM-L etc.

I bought the lens and kit but can't figure out how to get it working with my Deerelight CL1H v3. 2 spacers covers all of the threads for the head. 1 spacer doesn't push the pill deep enough to make contact with the battery. Has anyone used this host and has some advice? Thanks.

As for the Dereelight, is it possible trim down a ring? Are you trying to do it with or without the front lens. You can probably also stretch the spring on the dropin to help it make contact.

I would like a lens kit and I live in Canada, if your not selling the spacer thingy that holds it in place but I can swap the aspheric lens in place of a solarforce lens then that's cool by me too. I'm guessing I'm not eligible for the USA group buy I'll check in here for a little clarity.
Would it be $40 or less ?

It's a little more work than just swapping the lens. You also need to focus it which means using my spacer or making one yourself. Not hard to do, just time consuming.

I also can't confirm the solarforce lens size. You'll need to measure it to make sure that my lens will fit.

I tried with the lens off. Even with a trimmed 2nd spacer I think too many threads will be covered. The CL1H has a different head setup than other p60 hosts as shown in review at http://www.cpfreviews.com/Dereelight-CL1H.php. Maybe I should just try the kit in my SF C2.

I don't think anyone really managed to get the aspheric behind the stock lens in any flashlight. The P60 form just isn't long enough for it.

Most people either put it exactly where the original lens was or just a few mm deeper into the head. Usually relying on some sort of crenelations to protect the lens.

i was on the list for 1 kit prior to the big crash. i cant tell where in line i am now. ill be putting it in a 6p host with a nb xr-e or an sst 90. price and availability needed. thanks

I have heaps of lenses left. More than 300 of them! The price at the top of this thread is still valid.

I'm very close to getting a new batch of spacers made. They will be just a tiny bit narrower than the previous ones and should fit in a few more hosts. Hopefully I'll have them in late April.

The price for a kit will be about $25 (I'll confirm when I have them). They were a little cheaper last time because it was a pre-sale and everyone was taking a risk. I'm still a long way from breaking even on the lenses so I'm going to charge a little extra.
