Alk batt flashlt help

I have a photon II on my keychain. When necessary I carry a Mag AA in a nylon holder on my belt--they are easy to replace in terms of availability and money. But I need some advice in upgrading from the 2C and 2D flashlights around the house in the car. I want to stick with alkaline batteries. I have choosen a Mag 4D with a Carey Xenon lamp from Dr. Welsh for all the reasons one might chose such a flashlight (tough, heavy, bright, reliable etc.) Now I am undecided between the following two: Pelican M10 4C or a UK SL6 (6C) to have something waterproof, a little lighter in weight, a little different, a little warmer to the touch. What puzzles me most is the description of candlepower on the Pelican. The Pelican site has it at 30,000, Brightguy lists it a 40,000, while the SL6 isn't listed at all on the UK site, and Brightguy describes it just as very bright or something to that effect. I've done a search, looked at Brock's info, and realize the SL6 may indeed be very bright, but am wondering if its shape makes it cumbersome to hold, or if the beam it produces is too tight. I tend to go for the conventional and that is why the Pelican M10 is on my list, but I am put off by exaggerated claims. If you own either of these flashlights, I would like to hear from you.

I was actually looking at the SL6 but I'd like to see it before I buy it so I'm working on a dealer to get one for me just to see.

Brock gives very good advice.

I was very disappointed with my Pelican ProLite 4C. The light is more white then yellow, but the beam quality is very poor, and large, but not bright enough for floodlighting... If the name change has also meant a lamp change, then I'd like to read some other reviews of this light.

I've always liked the look of the 2C Pocket SabreLite, and trust the Pelican toughness and waterproofness, but the light output is not SureFire by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm considering the StreamLight 4AA flashlight but want to trial it against my StealthLites for brightness.

The SL6 is rather large, but it is the brightest light that isn't a lot of $$$ and it is the brightest non-lithium light I have. It does have a really tight beam though. If you like the 3 or 4 Cell Mags I would stick with them. If you want to go smaller but stay bright I would suggest the Streamlight Pro Polymer, it is also a really good light and almost as bright as a 5 D cell mag. Of course you loose run time, but the size is great.

Thanks Brock. Where can I find specifications on the Propolymer series? I looked at the Streamlight site, but can't find specs. (Went back and looked again and found the specs lurking at the bottom of the page on a click through) Also which Pro Polymer is almost as bright as a 5D cell mag, the 4AA or the 3C (and I imagine the comparison is with the standard White Star bulb, not the Magnum Star or the Carley Xenon)? (And I answered this question for myself as well by checking Brightguy again for the CP ratings--it's the 3C at 12,000 that I guess rivals the Mag 5D?)

I rechecked the Pelican site and the only 4C listed is the M10; perhaps this is a newer version of the ProLite you mention. The Pelican sites says the M10 is new, has the prefocused Xenon Laser Spot that is described on its Sabre and Stealth depictions, but the M10 is not submersible.

I agree, Brock's info is quite solid. I'll be looking for your posts in case an SL6 comes your way, which I suppose will indeed happen one of these days given that, from what I have seen in these forums and on BF, you have a grand and growing collection. BTW, thanks for all the info that I have gleaned from reading your posts, including your shoe size.

I sometimes think that if SureFire sold mud, I'd buy it, but then StreamLight would also start selling it as well

I do have a growing wish list, and I'll find the money from somewhere to feed my addiction!

Actually I haven't seen the Streamlight Pro Polymer 3C (now I will have to get one) I was refering to the 4 AA version. It is my favorite 4 AA light now, just beat out the stealth. It is as close to a scoprion or 6P in an alkaline light.

Did you get the Pro Polymer? If you did, do they come with aluminum relector?

I am thinking of using hotter bi-pin bulb from Stinger. Any idea? Thanks.

Bi-pin bulb for Stinger and ProPoly 3C are not compatible due to its different size.

Have you looked at the PrincetonTec Surge? It's very bright and runs on AA batteries (8 to be exact). Just a tad longer than a MiniMag and waterproof to 500 feet.

I know Surge is a very powerful light. Does it have a aluminum reflector?

I wish they make it for 4AA so it would be smaller. Maybe I will just chop it into half.
