One little bee sting and she almost stopped breathing in about 10 minutes.
Good thing we had an epi-pen and gave her a shot to hold her over until the
paramedics came. She was unconscious for about 20 minutes. What a scare :(
Has anyone had anaphylactic shock before? Has anyone had immunotherapy before?

What a scare :sick2:
This makes me reflect and not take everyday for granted.

So shes doing ok now? I have a nephew that is allergic to bee's and if he is stung he has to get to a hospital quick!

My best to you and your family. Glad to hear all is well now. Good thing you had the pen available. Make sure you have them in as many locations as possible. I know there are some limitations to where you can store them.

David,

I am glad you and your wife had the presence of mind to remember you had the epi-pen! They may hurt like hell, but that needle is nothing compared to the pain and fear of feeling your throat close up from the swelling of an allergic reaction. How long did it take for the rescue squad/EMTs to arrive? Did your wife pass out before or after administration of the epinephirine? I both of you the best, and don't forget to get another epi-pen!

Scary as Hell to nearly lose a loved one.

Hope she's feeling better.

Thanks for all your concern. She is fine now and resting.
I'm just watching her for a relapse - which sometimes does happen.
EMT was fast about 5-8 minutes. She passed out just before they
arrived. Scared me to death. I already picked up some more epi-pens.

Wow! I'm so glad she's ok. I can kind of relate. Last month my wife took a bad fall off a bicycle and was taken to an ER by ambulance, and wasn't there long till she was life flighted to the nearest Trauma Center about 50mi away. I spent the whole day and most of the night there.

Events like this really make you appreciate life, loved ones, and make you aware of just how fragile life can be at times.

I just wanted to explain how I understand how you must have felt. It's a scary feeling.

Give your wife my best and it feels good to hear she's ok.

Holy moly!! Good to know she's OK, and shes in your good hands. My wife had to endure not one but two C-sections for each of our kids:eek:. There was NO WAY I was going to be anywhere except right by her side on that operating table.

Yes, enjoy/cherish every moment... the good and the bad.

I am glad that she is ok now. Hopefully she does not have a relapse/

i hate when bad things happen to nice folks. im sad she got real sick but very glad she is doing beter now

David,

So glad she's OK! I didn't know what an epi-pen was till I read your post and the link. Wise of you to have one handy.

I got an ant bite many years ago when I was in college and had a similar reaction. My head immediately starting swelling so fast I looked like Lon Chaney turning into the werewolf (if you ever saw that classic). My roommate rushed me to the student clinic and they immediately jerked my pants down and jammed a needle into my posterior. They later told me I would've stopped breathing if they hadn't acted fast. Gave me such a scare that I carried a bottle of antihistamine pills around in my glove compartment for years. The funny thing is that I've been bitten by ants, and other critters, many times both before and after that, and had no reaction whatsoever.

Sorry to get off track with that old story. The important thing is you acted fast and your wife is OK. Best wishes to you both.

And Lite_me/Dennis, that was a terrible experience you had as well. I likewise hope your wife is recovering and feeling better now.

Andrew

Great to hear she made it man.

i had a bad situation with allergies like 20 years ago with some bad shrimp, i was feeling really sick and went to bed, bad thing to do.

i woke up an a hour later feeling like an oven with shivers, and swollen, the worst part was i could barely feel air coming in, like a very thin cold line of air i woke up desperate and went to the bathroom wanting to get my head in cold water, i could barely open my eyes.

then in the mirror i saw myself VERY swollen all over, and i mean it, my eyelids looked like meatballs with a thin line were i could barely see

i was lucky i woke up, and my mother took me to the hospital very quick, she was really scared when she looked at me all swollen up, and barely speaking (i needed to gasp air very quickly talking took too much air out of me), once we got there they gave me an epinephrin shot and gave me oxigen.

Glad you had the Epi-pen on hand, David.

My wife and I always have an Epi-pen handy for our daughter (peanut allergy). We haven't had to use it yet, and may never need to - we don't know how sensitive her system is yet - but hopefully we'll be able to identify it if that need arises.

I hope your wife, and your entire familly are OK.It is kind of crazy that something so small(a bee)can directley change our lives.Good Job on keeping a clear head and being prepared:thumbsup:.

Thank you Andrew. She's on the mend. Needed some pins & screws on one wrist, the other arm has a broken thumb. Yup, casts on both arms. :eek:oo: Also needed a few stitches on her cheek. Head & body scans came up negative even though it looked otherwise. And she actually doesn't even remember a thing!

My wife nearly died in a car accident 11 years ago. To this day she does not remember anything after leaving the appointment she was at.

All she knows is that she left the appointment and then woke up in the hospital. There is about 15 minutes of time that she has no recollection of.
