I found Fraen sometime ago and posted a link in a couple of threads. But no one seemed to pay attention

I've got some optics on order from them.

Their "standard" optics are larget than the NX optics, standing at about 27mm diameter and 19mm height, according to Scott Grzenda, the US-based gentleman I've been corresponding with.

These optics are also available in various beam angles:

- 6 degree
- 30 degree
- 45 degree

I have all three types on order and will post results of beam comparisons when available.

Apparently, they also have specific designs specialised to suit lambertian and batwing luxeons for the 3 angle variations above.

The optics will work with the new 5-watters too.
 
None of those are fresnel lenses. The dimpled lens is similar to the lens on wider mr-16 capsule lamps. Dimpled lenses are for soft floods, and fresnel lenses produce a shaft of light at optimal focus and a wide bead as the source is moved farther away. Good flood fresnel lenses are dimpled on the source side of the lens to smooth out any projected defects in the beam for any focus at a loss of sharp focus.

Slick, his voicemail (I called and emailed him just this week, phonecall was 2 days ago) says he'll be back in his office Friday. I think the guy's on vacation or something.

And oh - the prices they quote for everything are in Euros 'cos Fraen is Italiano

Euros are pretty close to $, so that sounds good.

I saw that they were based in Europe. But having a US office got me to contact them. In fact, it seems like lately most of the good stuff I'm finding is overseas..

I see that they have a location in the States at Massachusetts.

Ok, your gonna laugh at me with this question but optics are not my speciality. The smaller the degree, the tighter and longer throw spot?
- 6 degree - tight spot?
- 30 degree
- 45 degree - wide angle?

What degree angle are the current NX05 optics for comparason?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The standard definition of beam angle is the angle within which the intensity is at least 50% of the peak intensity. The NX-05 beam angle is 10 degrees.
 
That's like +/- 50%. Is it more because of the height at which the optics are resting or is it more so because of manufacturing quality control?
