i'm looking for some amber leds that can deal with a fairly large amount of power and put out a decent number of lumens. My first choice would have been the 3w luxeon, it puts out 110 lm but it needs 1450mA to really push it, and all of that at only 2.95V so i have no idea what driver to use with them. it appears the next runner up in terms of brightness would be the amber k2, but it drops down to only 70lm at 700mA. after that, it seems like the rebel is next, then the seoul, and then the cree xr series. are there any that i missed? the problem seems to be in finding something to drive them, since most amber leds have a low Vf. i know there are the large 20w multi die chips, but i need something i can focus with common optics. i tried searching on here, but found nothing. thanks!

Amber luxeon I. Other than that I would recommend either the Luxeon III or the K2 the Rebel can be a pain to solder unless you have the right equipment

Since LED drivers are generally current regulators, Vf of your LED does not really affect the choice of driver, as long as your supply is equal to or higher than your LED's Vf plus the voltage drop across your regulator. So the same driver you use for whites, you can also use it for ambers, reds, etc.

I have used amber Lux Is, Lux IIIs and rebels and they are all pretty much the same, except that Lux Is and Rebels are slightly more efficient than Lux IIIs, but the Lux III, owing to it larger die size, can handle more current than the other two (albeit at the cost of lower efficiency). Overall, Luxeons are the most efficient ambers availbale on the market.

How many LEDs are you trying to drive? Just one? OPTEK has the Lednium series which is a composite 3X3 unit putting out 270 lumens at 6.9V x 1.05A, but I don't know how focusable it would be.

Noted. Arrow as a whole is always working on improving their search tools, and their ability to deal with smaller customers. All I can say now is that the wheels are in motion.
