another noob cr123 question

Can you substitute an 18650 for 2 cr123's? I know, I am a ridiculous noob.

Depends on the input voltage of the light. Most cr123 cells are 3.6 or 3.7 if you put 2 of these then the input voltage would be erither 7.2 or 7.4.

If the input voltage for the light say 3v-8.4v max the in theory yes. some lights will take 18650 batteries but the input voltage may only say 2.8 to 4.5v, if you try and put 2X cr123 3.6v then you will damage the light.

Make sure the input voltage is 8.4v.

Depends what the light can handle. For example, my Ra Twisty can handle up to 4.2 volts so if I use my 18650 battery tube with 2 CR123's I would damage it. Other lights can handle the extra voltage but using one 18650 cell at 4.2 volts may give you less light then the 6 volts produced by 2 CR123's.

You also need to be concerned about the size. CR123's have a 16mm diameter while 18650's have an 18mm+ diameter. Some 2x123 lights can handle 18650's. Some can handle 17670's, and some can't handle either without replacing or boring out the tube.

Ahhh, I see now. I guess best to just stick with the batteries recommended by the manufacturer then. Thanks!
