The Stinger and the Stinger HP appear to have the same battery and bulb (Nickel-cadmium 3.6 Volt, 1.8 amp hour; 3.7 Volt, 6 watt, xenon gas filled bi-pin). So why does the HP have a higher candlepower rating? Is it solely a function of the head/reflector configuration?

Edited to add: being new to the addiction, I recently acquired a Stinger, which I found to be surprisingly bright for its size. Got an UltraStinger today, which I'm looking forward to playing with tonite. And an alleged 2.5M CP rechargeable spot yesterday, which I'm convinced is bright enough to start a fire at 100 yards. Plus an Inova X5, a Photon, a Streamlight 7LED 4AA, . . . . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Let me say WELCOME Powernoodle!

Get a good strong grip on your wallet!

I think the Stinger VS. Stinger HP CP is due entirely to the fact that the HP focuses the light tighter. I traded an HP off for a regular Stinger and am quite happy I did so! It has a VERY nice beam!

I have what was a quite cheap Rechargeable spot from BigLots that is scary bright. It takes seconds for the bulb to stop glowing when switched off.

You are off to a good start it would seem! The 4AA 7LED is a honey ain't it?!?!?!?

I think PlayboyJoeShmoe was on target when he said the reflector changing the beam shape.

Which is why I find using Candlepower ratings so questionable and such a highly manipulated marketing tool.
