Hi Folks,
I know there has already been quite a bit of discussion on the Inova X1, but since I actually ordered one I can't keep my mouth shut /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I got a small order from countycomm today. Initially I thought the X1 was pretty neat. I still do, though I don't know what I will use it for. This light is probably the pinnacle of what can be achieved with throw for a 5mm led. The beam, while not flawless (as has already been noted by others) is fantastically focused. It's so focused in fact that this kind of limits it's usefulness. There is no side spill at all and it's so tight that you can't use it to illuminate anything close by at all. for example, if you wanted to read a map with it you'd have to hold it up above your head to illuminate enough of the map to be useful. But it sure wouldn't blind the driver with side spill /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
That being said, I am happy with the light. If you need something with a single 5mm brightness, but some throw to it, this is the light.
Physically, the quality of the light lives up to what you would expect from Inova. I have the silver one and it has a sort of brushed aluminum texture to it. Other reports have had it being very smooth, but mine is definitely textured a bit.
The lens is recessed into the stainless steel looking bezel enough that you can set it down on it without risking scratching the lens.
So, it may be a light that is looking for a problem, but it's a great little light. I was also surprised that it ran on a AA, for some reason I had it in my head that it was a AAA.
