Any good red lasers?

Are there any good red lasers out there? Most of the ones I've seen are not very impressive. I seem to remember there are three different wavelengths, and the one closest to orange is the one to get. A AAA light is mandatory over button cells. Also, a lot of these $$$ green lasers are offered as modified 5+ mw, are there any super charged (15-50 mw) red pen lasers available?
To sum it up - I am looking for the orangish wavelength, modified (more power) AAA pen laser, put together in a quality case.
I'm interested in a greenie, also, but not until they are available in AA, more reasonably priced, and, of course, modified 15-50 mw.

That might be the ticket. Does any one offer modded red lasers? Is possible to mod one myself?
 
There are a few problems with modified lasers- mostly with changing the power output.

I have a laser stuffed into an AA MiniMag body- a perfectly fine and legal mod. It lets me run that wonderful pointer off cheap AA's, has a true on-off switch, and fits my hand well. If I wanted to adjust the power output, I'd need a laser power meter to calibrate it. (not cheap, last I checked.) It's a class IIIa laser, and if I modded it to output more than 0.5mW, it would be a class IIIb laser- illegal for me to use outside of a laser-lab, unless I had a specific permit (like for a light-show).

If you want a bright laser you can actually be able to show to someone, green is the way to go. It's better to spend the money for an eye-catching green IIIa, than to get an eye-damaging red IIIb, that'll STILL look dimmer than the greenie. Try doing a Google for 'laser power output legality' or something similar, like 'safety.' Using a Class IIIb or IV in the open (IE: not in an enclosed room with the proper eyeware, etc) is illegal in the US, though some states do allow permits for laser shows and such.

I'm familiar (enough) with the various classes of lasers and the legality between them. I've, also, been known to run a red light on occasion, or break the speed limit from time to time.
I figured, with all the modified greenies, that someone offered a slightly (15+mw) modified red/orangie.

You can get 7-9mW of 645nm red laser radiation by adding a fourth battery to one of those cheap "bullet" laser pointers (the kind you find for $1 or $2 on ebay), but I suspect the SMD resistor inside (for limiting laser diode current) might let its supply of magic smoke out if you ran it continuously.
For intermittent use though, it should be OK.

out of all the red lasers I have had the Infinitor brand has been the best as far as case, output and design. They are not modified as far as power but the pen sized one seems to blow all the other cheap pointers that people at work have but then again my greenie rocks.

I second the Laser Guy if your looking for a module to build from he's got them. As a matter of fact I have some onhand that may be a little better then what he has in stock right now. These are from his last inventory that I got ahold of.

I get a pretty good deal on these (I buy in quantity)2.6v to something and they are current protected.They are a 8.2mm diode and they are brighter then a lot of pointers I have seen out there. If you get some brass tubing and a couple other parts you can make a simple pointer.These will press into 11/32 inch brass tubing with a wall dia. of .014. The AAAA batteries work well in the 11/32 tubing and I have run the modules for a long time on AAA batteries about 36 hours with good throw. I was told if a continuos 3 volt were fed to these they would last about two years. Send me an email if you would like one.
