Okay, here is an update.
I have modded my G2 with a neutral emitter and the DX 15880 circuit. This is a very versatile circuit. It is optimized for 14500 and runs quite well on nimh (1.2V).
That said, the level selection is not the best for nimh. I have it set for 3 modes at the moment becuase I like a mid mode and think I prefer the low (might be a touch lower than in 2 mode configuration)
The levels are spaced a little too closely overall. There is a distinct difference, but the mid and high levels are pretty close on nimh. On 14500, the high is a screamer, very bright, on nimh, it is pretty close to medium. Not bad, just not super impressive (my mulit-meter does not do well in current measurements but I got around 2 Amps at the battery on high, so likely around 500 mA to the LED, please note that I don't have high confidence in these reading though).
This reminds me of other lights I have seen that run best on 14500 but perform pretty well on nimh.
Memory mode requires the light to be on for 2 seconds to l lock the mode.
The pill had to have some slots filed out of it to fit the circuit because some components are right on the edge. I was unable to solder the circuit to the pill effectively (17 mm circuit) but it works very well since it is held in place by the pill being screwed into the body. More work than I had imagined.
The Shiningbeam circuit would be nice, but it would require a decent amount of work to try and get it to stay put since the 14mm diamter is too small for this pill.
I have sold my last light with the elusive RV7 circuit, too bad, that circuit would be ideal for this light.
