Anybody have thoughts about angle head lights?

Hi - new here,been lurking for a while now & finally joined.
I was looking at the 3 new Rolfis angle head lights, particularly the AA one.
Also thinking about 2 Fenix models, I think MK-10 & MK-11.
I know & trust Fenix brand, I've got LD20 that I'm just now realizing how much I like.
Don't know much about Rolfis though.
Any thoughts you have about either brand or the lights themselves would be appreciated.

Welcome to CPF! Thoughts, in general, about right angle lights --

Right angle lights are usually shorter than their straight counterparts. They are great for task work, especially when you don't want to hold the light in your hand while working.

Shown below are the 1AA Energizer Romeo and 2xCR123a Streamlight Polytac 90. The magnets built into the Romeo's clip permit you to temporarily attach it to a steel surface -- an advange I've exploited several times while installing or repairing things in dark places.

The Polytac 90 has a great combination of throw and flood and will light up a neighbor's outbuilding over 700 feet away.

Zebralight also has right angle lights.

What kind of beam and UI are you looking for?

Thanks for your replies. Would like L-M-H and clicky switch with decent throw and not overly expensive. Going to check out the 2 that Parnass posted above.
I'd like to stick with AA or AAA for now & would also like the head to rotate to diff. positions.
Just picked up a Xeno E15 & Xtar charger with a 14500 batt. to try out but I'm new to these batt. types & not sure if I really care for them yet, so for now will stick with what I know.

My first high-end lights were Streamlight which I purchased a little over a month ago. The Polytac 90 in yellow was one of them. Very straightforward, no convoluted programming. Just a simple solid light. However, in a quiet room you can hear it producing a little buzz when it's on low mode (just an intrinsic part of some multi-mode lights) but I can live with it. Here's a video about inductor hum by a gentleman that contributes a lot of reviews and wisdom on this forum.

I'm a fan of angle head lights too. Bought my first one more than 15 yrs ago. A military style (2 D cell) bent neck flashlight that includes filters and a spare bulb in the tail cap. The primary reason I got was that it would not roll off in turbulence. At that time I was flying single pilot cargo and had a flashlight roll out of reach in rough air one night. have had a thing for angled lights ever since.

Back on topic......I have the Rofus JR20 and using it with 18650 batteries. It's a well made flashlight. It is bright and versatile. I tend to leave it in the angled position more than the straight one. I see no reason why the AA version could not be just as good.

Have you considered the Streamlight "sidewinder" series? I have one and it is a well made flashlight and the head is adjustable just as you mentioned. It is only rated at 55 lms, but it has proven to be plenty bright. In fact I can preflight a 747 with it. It is one of my favorite flashlights. I have the sportsman model and I liked it enough to leave a review at Bright Guy's website.

I bought my dad one of those fenix angle head flashlights for his birthday a couple of years ago. Then on a subsequent visit I noticed it was on his dresser drawer in his room...Which is where he puts things he does not use... naturally, I was curious and took it out and tried to use. I found it awkward to use and difficult to step through the different modes. It was no wonder he wasn't using it. He still prefers the surefire G2 I gave him.

Another light that I dont have, but I am curious to try is made by energizer. It is a military style light with a bright primary beam and four secondary LEDs in different colors. The head is adjustable and it uses 2X AA batteries, but it can run on Just one AA battery.

I cant post any links, but just do a google search and you will find the lights I referenced.

Hi There - I bought a Rofis JR20 a week ago for £37 ($60) and the build quality is on par with my bigger more expensive lights. I like how you can position the the head, not only straight up and at a right angle, but at any angle in between too.

The hoster that came with it is also of good quality.

As I said, I've only had this light a week and in that time only used it for a few minutes, so I don't know how the head will stand up to years of altering the angle, but on first impressions, so I would highly recommend this light.

thanks martindb for the info. I think I'll probably buy one of the Rofis lights when I get the money. They were the first of that type that I looked at & they did look pretty good & the 1 review I read was very positive.
