Got a big honkin 3-LED, 500 lumen light for Christmas. 9 long, and 2-1/4 in diameter at the head. Runs 4xCR123 batts, reverse clicky, 3-mode (high, low, strobe). Itll tailstand, for those who care.

This thing generates approximately twice the output of my latest XPG light, and about matches it on low. It's awesomely bright, and is built like a tank. Picture:

I suspect it's made for them by someone, but I have no idea who. Anyone recognize it?

I was given one of those, too, and like it a lot. However, I can't go on buying those CR123 batteries.

I am considering buying the rechargeable Li CR123s, but am concerned about their higher voltage, as compared to the alkalines. Four of the Li works out to 14.8 volts, rather than 12, as with four CR123s.

Does anyone know if this uses a regulated circuit that will be OK with the higher voltage?

My own experimenting with spacers show that it will not run on just two CR123s, so I guess that means that using a pair of 17670s will not work. It does illuminate at reduced power on three CR123s. Does that indicate that it might not have a regulated circuit?

Again, any idea who makes it for Frontgate?

I do like the light, but the battery situation needs improvement.

Get 3 rcr123 batteries, and a dummy 123.

That's what I ended up doing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I didn't have the nerve to try 4 RCRs, and didn't want the diminished capacity and charging issues of 4 RCR123As. My observation (confirmed by an impartial panel of BBQers) is that the brightness is the same as with 4 CR123 primary cells. At least, when fully charged. I will run them down a little and check again.
