Geez Willmore... you'd think that you were a moderator or something with the way you've been telling people what to do on this thread... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Just for future reference... this is The Cafe... informally referred to as the "OFF TOPIC" cafe. The thread wouldn't belong in this forum if it didn't go off topic at least a dozen times. Don't take it personal though... I can't seem to keep threads on topic in here either... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

As to the original question in this thread... CPF has chosen not to have a dog in this fight and not to provide the arena for such a fight either. David himself shut down the last thread about this with the words "This is being handled behind the scenes"... or something to that affect. You can do a search for the thread if you want... I don't have time right now.

In addition, another thread was closed by me after Frank made a post and I feel that is the way it should be left. If you want further information on this topic, you need to take Peter up on his offer to discuss it with you through email or you can email Frank.

IOW... to put it plainly... this topic is not up for discussion anywhere on CPF. Any further questions or comments on that subject or my ruling should be taken up with DavidW by PM or email. And you may want to wait a day as he fried another modem last night and is temporarily offline.

OH!... and one last thing... slightly off topic... (see? it's so hard to stay on topic in here!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif )... Yes, Darell is an administrator. He chooses not to use his "powers" to the full extent that he can... but never for one moment think that he doesn't have them... and can't use them. He has every bit as much authority on this entire board as David and I and every other administrator does. Just in case anyone wondered... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ok... carry on... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Sasha,

Thank you for taking the time to asnwer my question. I understand you clearly to say that the answer is "no, this is not welcome nor permitted on CPF." Thank you for clarifying that.

I appeciate that this is the cafe and is the place for threads that would be off topic in the other forums, I just didn't realize that *within* a thread things were welcome to get off topic. I pictured it as a general 'catch all' category.

I have no interest in questioning your ruling nor that of DavidW. I simply wanted to settle the issue before people invested too much of their time and effort in a discussion only to have it closed down mid-stride as that is difficult on if not painful to the participants.

I think I will take PhotonBoy up on his (I can assume a male gender for someone called PhotonBoy, right?) sugguestion to take this to http://www.quicktopic.com. The subject will be "Country Comm no longer carrying ARC products." I ask that all who chose to follow there realize that this will not be a shouting match, but will be an orderly discussion. You think (and Sasha seems to) that I'm riding herd hard in this thread, well, you haven't seen anything, yet. To reiterate, this is not a mob. Those who *know* something will have their say first and once the facts are in *and only once the facts are in* will there be any call for public discussion.

Apparently a direct address for the topic is http://www.quicktopic.com/22/H/JewDaAJ2Pky4

I'm very sorry if my response to Darell was misinterpreted. I've read his posts many times in the past and enjoyed them, but they are always labeled 'Administrator'. So, every time I read one, I have to ask myself if he is meaning his message in that capacity or simply as a fellow CPF member. This time--since I had asked for input from an Administrator--I had to ask him to state it himself as I was not about to assume what voice in which he spoke.

As a UBB 'wish list' item, it would be nice if admins and moderators would:
1) only be listed as 'moderator' when they post in forums for which they're moderator.
2) be able to turn off their admin/moderator status when they are not speaking/acting officially.

Sort of like when the President asks a friend to do something, the friend may need to know "is this my friend asking me or is this the President asking me?" Generally they've known the person long enough to know and rarely need it clarified, but I don't think many of us know the admins and moderators well enough or personally enough to be able to make that distinction.

That said, I've been reading Darell long enough that I have a pretty good idea of which is which (as you say, it's rarely if ever as an 'administrator') but, sometimes it's important for other who are reading the tread to be told.

Thanks, again, Sasha, for the time and effort you put into the board.

Cheers,
David

Maybe we can give people a quick chance to make a comment on this process (not on the CC&ARC issue) and then close the thread?

willmore,

If you haven't already pm'ed or e-mailed Sasha or DavidW about this question, you should. I am not saying that this should necessarily only be discussed privately. I just mean that they are the ultimate arbiters of the questions in your first post, ie "Is it permissable to discuss the current state of affairs of CC dropping all ARC products from their civillian web site in this forum? If not, is there a forum in which it is permissable?"

In the future, I personally would recommend sending questions like this directly to them, rather than posting them in a forum. Needless to say (but I will say it anyway) if either of them gives you advice that contradicts mine, follow theirs and feel free to ignore me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, doing it publically, like this, makes it *plain and clear* for all others. This *has* proven to be a sensitive topic as there were related threads which have been locked due to how they were going about it. Sasha has now made it very clear in plain words what's not allowed, so doing this publically not only answers my question, but that of any other who may wander onto the topic.

As either she or DavidW would have had to take the time and effort to respond to a PM which would only benefit me, I didn't see the point of not sharing that with the rest of the group and keeping a dozen or more people PMing them on the same subject--if they even bothered to. Most, I fear, would have just dived right in--which would clearly have ended them up where the two locked threads ended. I'd prefer to not start a thread that is bound to get locked, myself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

FWIW... I did a search and found the original thread that David closed with these words:

Things are being handled behind the scenes. Please don't open anymore threads on this subject.

So your comment of:

... so doing this publically not only answers my question, but that of any other who may wander onto the topic.

Well... I think everyone pretty much knew already... thus the lack of further discussion since then. But I suppose it's always good to reiterate... in case some missed it the first time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Well, as Frank only made the decision Saturday 6/28, I'm not sure how related a thread closed 6/20 is to this topic.

The thread you closed on 6/28 is the one I'm refering to. But as you didn't close it with the kind of summary/rational that DavidW did, it was not clear why the thread was being locked. IMHO, it should have been locked because of the personal nature of the statements/attacks being made, so it was unclear that it was because the topic should be dropped.

The last post before you posted and closed it was one by David Wright that strikes me as a bit ad homen and, probably, uncalled for. So, I saw this as a thread closed because the participants couldn't keep it civil. Frank did make a nice statement, though. If that other post hadn't snuck in there, it would have been more clear--now that I reread it in that light.

"... thus the lack of further discussion since then." ??? The last post on that topic was made two days ago and the thread got locked. I'm not sure what others reading habbits are, but I don't, normally, glue myself to the CPF. I was busy all weekend with Field Day and was busy preparing most of Thu and Fri of last week. This is the first time I've gotten to check the forum since some time last Thu, I think. So, I would't try to build much of an arguement on this foundation. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW, you're hard to talk to, what with your avitar glareing at me all the time. Where is she from? She reminds me of one of the out-for-blood, meat-cleaver-wielding peasants from a program to "Les Miserables". Sort of creepy..... Maybe more smilies would help? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As suggested by people, before, I've invited Peter and Frank to state the facts as they see then and to make statements--over on the other forum.

Ah well, Willmore... you know how it is... some people get it and some people don't. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

So now that your question has been answered and you've found a lovely place to discuss your topic and you've provided a link for anyone who wants to contribute, I think it would be ok to close this thread to prevent any further drifting and/or discussion that might upset you or me or anyone else.

As always... thanks guys! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif
