The switch design on the Arc 4+ is ingenious. The physical switch is actually in the head with the rest of the electronics. The button at the rear of the light just pushes the internal switch using the entire battery assembly as a stick. It is also not a full power contact mechanical switch but an activation toggle used as input for the IC. Very nice.
I have a question (or two) for you, Peter. One mechanical, one software.
Mechanical .
Since the battery is actually part of the switch actuation mechanism, all force placed on the back button is transfered via the battery (and anode/cathode contacts) to the switch. Do you have a limiter or some other physical device to prevent switch damage for large shocks (you know tripping and ramming the button end on the ground, rocks, what have you)? From what I can see, this is the biggest argument for a switch guard. It looks like the most fraqile portion of the whole assembly. How will you prevent switch damage from heavier battery assemblies (like those used in a AA tube)?
Software
I find that actually entering the menu mode is quite difficult. I can do it, but it takes many attempts to get there. Something about the timing of the first click is funny. Not sure, but I usually wind up with a triple click. It seems like if you just keep clicking the light should just bail and hit the menu (it does not). Think there may be a bug in this area (I know recent changes have been made for triple click support)?
BTW... This light is really quite remarkable... Wonderful...
