Arc AAA vs. SL Stylus?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I have both and just compared the beams... the stylus appears brighter but only because it has a beam that is a bit more focused while the Arc has more of an even wide beam. Both are "white" leds and have very similar color.

The Arc AAA uses one AAA battery and uses a boost circuit with regulation. This means that you will get fairly constant light output for the most of the life of the battery before it goes into a dimmer moon mode alerting you to change the battery.
The Arc is waterproof down to about 30 feet.
The stylus uses 3 x AAAA batteries which I find very difficult to find. It is not regulated and will start dimming from the moment the batteries start wearing down.

Without a doubt I use the Arc more. The Arc's size is ideal for a keychain or pocket light, the stylus is the size of a large pen. The stylus unfortunately doesn't get much use as it now lives in my range box.

Here's a runtime plot on the Stylus:

And here's a runtime plot for the ARC AAA:

The Stylus takes 10 hours to dim its output 50% while the ARC AAA takes 7 hours to dim its output 50%.

I agree with those who mentioned decreasing light output. I prepped my wife's stylus for deployment last night. A little cleaning here, a little lube there and a fresh set of batts. Then to check it against mine.

I was amazed how much brighter is was than my one that's seen used a lot this year, and it was all due to the new batts. Very noticeable. I'd say that next time I'll put the E^2 energizers or something similar.
