A specifically made for Arc LS head Headlamp Accessory.

This would be a true headlamp, not a niteize or modded incan headlamp.

Multiple battery pack options, including 2C and 2D.

Helmet mountable, either with clips or blade mount. (Not just caving/climbing helmet,)

Swivel head (up and down).

Robust heatsinking, yet shielded from wearer's head.

Around and over the head straps.

The headlamp part would be sold separate from the packs. This would permit the buyer to choose the pack(s) according to individual needs.

How about it, Mr. Gransee?? Can you get some designer to start thinking about this? I would go for it, easily. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hmm, simplest way to do this would be take an Arc LS with the 1x123 twist pack, drill a hole in the pack tail, put in a dummy cell wired to a connector in the tail, where you'd run a wire to an external battery pack. Then make an appropriate helmet clamp (maybe mod a Brightstar clamp or something) and put the battery pack on your helmet or belt.

The simplest way to do this would be to remove (or modify) the kroll switch, and create a wired clampable or swivel insert. No drilling necessary and you might even be able to do it with off the shelf parts.

This is NOT a mod I am talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am floating a suggestion for a future accessory product from Arc Flashlight (an IDEA for one, hmmmmmm?).

What I am suggesting gives maximum flexibility and Versatility, and would be a product manufactured specifically for the Arc LS line of flashlights. All you need to supply as the Arc LS head and the appropriate batteries for the pack(s) chosen by you.

I already HAVE a headlamp MOD for the Arc LS, and it has one drawback: you have to unscrew the battery case to open it.

I am thinking of a multi-environment headlamp product: caving, mountaineering, climbing, camping, backpacking, search and rescue, etcetera. Each one of these has different runtime needs, hence the multiple battery pack options.

How's this: HDS (which is collaborating with Arc) will be releasing their Action light 3 hopefully later this year. It will use the same circuit as the LS5. So it is a rugged headlamp with a 5W emitter. Multiple brightness levels, rugged housing, all the great stuff you expect in an Action light.

Just a rumor: we may actually be making the Action light for HDS. Sssh!

obeck...i really like that idea! thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The first action light was, IIRC, rediculously expensive...making the LS look cheap. I know you cant discuss pricing but theoretically could you ballpark it within $100?

Peter;

Thank you for answering. IF the Action Light 3 meets the criteria that I set forth in the original post: Fine.

However, I was thinking more along the lines of an accessory that would use your existing Arc LS head (whichever version you happen to have), have all the advantages of a true headlamp, with the multiple battery pack options.

I have the Modded Rayovac 'Adult' headlamp for the Arc LS, by Silviron. The main annoyance I have with it, is that the cable is too short for mounting on a construction type hardhat. The other annoyance, is that you need a quarter or a screwdriver to change the batteries. Plus, you are stuck with 1 battery type: AA. other than those things, it is great.

In many situations, you cannot stop and change batteries every hour or two.

The Petzl Mega Belt gives you the option of 3AA or 3C batteries, in the same pack. The PT Switchback gives you the option of 2AA in the headlamp housing, or plug in a 4C series/parallel belt pack for extended runtimes.

I am thinking of using our existing Arc LS heads, rather than buying a complete light. Oh, a 1 watt LS is plenty bright as a headlamp. I have used the Rev1 white second in the rain and snow on the headlamp mod I have. In the rain with water darkened pavement, it lights things up very well.

The Action Light that I know of, is designed for a very limited audience: Cavers.

The idea I have brought up is far more inclusive than exclusive.
