Arc-LS with HD?

I just about made the plunge to buy an Arc-LS today but noticed at the end of the web page a description of the newest high dome Lambertian (LXHL-MW1D) which apparently would out throw the current LS LED. I'd like the throw capability though usually dispersed with a modified SF beamshaper to fit the Arc. Are there known plans to put the HD in the Arc-LS?

BTW, I've been lurking here for a long, long time. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone.

yes, there are, in less then two weeks the ls2 should be available!

the arc 2 has the 50waterproof housing, scratchproof lense, and uses a hd luxeon for increased brighness and greater throw!
 
So that's the "LS2". Thanks. I haven't noticed the Arc Flashlight forum in awhile.

Compared to many here, I'm completely normal! It has been useful on occasion to show my wife pictures and lists of some collections. Then she starts to believe that my boxes and shelves of flashlights are well within reason.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The LS2 with 1W HD Luxeon runs at 400mA as does the LS1 rev2 with 1W LD Luxeon so the run times should be the same.

As far as brightness -vs- runtime, if all I wanted was run time I would get a reactor and put lithiums in it. Or I would get a $7 Turtlelight 1. Not very bright but runs for several days, I have one and would not want to be without it for emergencies. But in both cases, the light is too big to fit in my pocket on my keychain and is not as bright as the Arc LS. I don't buy Arc LS's for super-long run times, because I use the light for only a few minutes at a time. And I use rechargeable 123's in it so it cost nothing to run, unlike the reactor which will not run on rechargeables, only expensive lithiums (for useful brightness levels).

ld, hd, se are all the same effeciencies (well, except for the fact that each luxeon is different.

the only thing that is defferent about them is the way the clear top is shaped.

the resulting brightness all depends on the way the led is focused.

low-domes work well with mag-sized reflectors if you want a defined hotspot, or work better with the nx-05 optics if you want more of a flood than a spot.

lambertians work well with primarily small reflectors, and provide a more even light when used with them. however, when used with the optics, they produce less of a flood than the bat-wings and more of a long-throwing spot.

the side-emitters really suck with the optics...badly... the way to best take advantage of a se is to use a reflector, as this is mainly how an incandescant focuses, therefore, you get increased brightness and longer throw. also, the se's i have are the most intense white light i have ever seen! i didn't think such white light was possible...it made a flushing toilet look beautiful

Rothrandir, the HD parts actually are more efficient on average. This is because the die geometry is different (hence the requirement for a "high dome") and the phosphor application is different (EOS). EOS applies the phosphor to the die only instead of gooping the entire cavity. This wastes less of the blue light (too much green/yellow = wasted blue). A side effect of this change in phosphor technology causes a smaller die image- resulting in a brighter/more narrow beam.
