hi, i will be getting an Arc4+ rev.1 soon and i am very excited. i was wondering what the company upgrades can do for it. can they make it more brighter or efficient? if not, will there be future upgrades that will be able to do that? i have not seen any posts about any mods done to it, i'm not talking about the tailcap mods or UCL lens change, i mean changing the meat inside to make it more efficient or brighter, kinda like what's been done to the LS series /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
thanks in advance for any help.

i thought since the led is potted that meant the existing led would be damaged but a new one could be installed.

If there is any problem with the existing led the light has to be sent to the factory for guarantee/repair.

i just recieved my Arc4+ rev.1, first let me say this is a beautiful piece of work, thankyou Peter and the Arc team for making such a nice light.
and thankyou guys for your replies /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
my concern was that i have an Arc LS1 modded with fraen and R3J at stock current(~333mA) and it is brighter than the Arc4+ at level 1. and this LS1 can go for 2 hours at this bright level! i havent tested the Arc4+ but i am assuming it will be at level1 for ~30min. the CPF'r who modded my Arc LS1 had compared it to his Arc4+ with lux measurments and the LS1 beat his Arc4+ also. (both of the Arc4+'s are 1sts) so i wasnt really suprised that it was brighter than new Arc4+(not really new but new to me from a current trade)
so that is why i was asking if the led can be changed or if the company upgrades can improve the brightness and efficiency. it just doesnt make sense to me, i dont know what kind of led is in there but it seems like the light would be brighter if it was replaced by a really nice TVOJ. Peter could you explain this to me. please understand that i am not complaining, i am just a little confused. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

THE_dAY, it is like the guys said, the electronics are calibrated to that particular LED and the entire assembly is potted to keep out moisture and reduce the effects of vibration.

What I might be convinced to do is to build an Arc4 with your special LED. You will need a pretty good LED though. The R3J and TV0J you mentioned would not produce an X but should be similiar in brightness to a 4+. The tint won't be as good though. Let me say this another way: you will be hard pressed to find an LED better than the ones we use already. It is possible but most of the "hot" leds running around CPF just don't that good.

Also, remember that a LP Fraen will produce a brighter spot for a given output because the beam is more focused. Watch out for bogus information.

thanks for the info Peter, so what would the company upgrades do? i would be interested in the strobe light setting if it is available.

We will offer software updates and hardware accessories for the Arc4 (see FAQ). For more information on future software updates, please read the various software updates.
