Ok, I don't have one yet but I'm already wondering,
The website says input 2v - 6.75v So it's designed
to run with 2 x 123 my question is what would that
do for the light? Brighter? Longer runtimes? Brighter, Longer Boost?
Just make it bigger? what would the difference be? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif
 
Ya' mean like this? I haven't done runtimes yet, but I like the configuration.....

Guys, I just made this for my own use and won't be making more for a while. Sometime I may try to run a few off to sell but I won't be taking any orders and can't commit to anything right now. Heck, Peter will probably have them pretty soon!

Input is 2-6.75v, so four AA's would be the limit.
 
You could wire 8AA batts together for 6 volts , right?
I think wire the 2 sets of 4AA batts in parallel.
Just for longer runtime.

Sure but I think that everyone is talking about a series setup like in a tube/cylinder. Your talking external battery packs, right?
 
I meant 2xAA = 3v
4xAA would be a double tube of the above
and 8xAA would be two of those so all the packs
would put out 3v, I see no reason to try to get
6v if it's only going to make it run longer,
The same as parallel.
 
How about 5xNiMH AA? that would be fairly lenghty, though, and would begin to resemble a baton (quite forbidden, here in california)...
 
As a light designed for EDC (read--small and easy to carry) it's highly unlikely we'll see anything longer than 2x123's. It's probably also unlikely we will see AA packs since those were duds from a sales standpoint despite people giving assurances that "if you build it they will come"

It's really too bad we aren't likely to have AA packs... that is one of the primary running modes for my other Arc LS's. It's really nice to know that my NiMH AA's are running in essentially 'free' mode.

Dan: would you mind sharing the thread pitches for that? I'd like to have a go at something similar, but am still in the early stages of my machine tool experience... how did you do the switch end? (assuming you don't mind sharing)

Know whatcha mean Paul, I run my LS's on 2AA almost exclusively. I may have to do a 2AA pack for the Arc4 when I get a chance.

The thread pitch is 32 tpi on both ends. I simply turned the ends to the major diameter of the existing battery pack before single point threading. Both ends look exactly like the factory part, and use the o-rings off the old pack.

do you mind sharing the diameter as well or is this the same 13/16 as the older designs just the different TPI ?
