ArcAAA Availability

Hi all,

It seems to be really difficult to find a place that has the ArcAAA in-stock nowadays but it's even harder to find a place that will ship to Canada. Does anyone have any clue how I can obtain one or is this just a lost cause? Perhaps it would be wise for me to "settle" for a CMG Infinity Ultra as those are more readily available.

It looks like Arc is out of stock on all AAA and AA lights. (with the exception of the RGB).

I have e-mailed the person that runs that site and I asked if I could pick up the light locally since we're both in Toronto. He has not responded to my e-mails so I'm a bit wary about ordering from him.

Does Arc the company ship to Canada?

If so, you could perhaps email Peter and ask him to hold an Arc AAA for you whenever more are ready (I believe the site says 6 days from now). Just an idea. I don't know if Peter would do that or not?

Yes they do. Merri quoted me $12 to ship to Canada and I don't think that it is worth it.

The CMG Ultra will get the job done. Many on this board like that light.


The only option (if you really want an Arc and since you are in the Canada shipping area) IMO is to get together your friends that also want Arcs and do a large order. That way, shipping cost is split over several folks.

If that is not possible, I'd just get the CMG. $12 is high for shipping such a tiny item.

Ummm. How bout cluing in newbies....old vs. new???? I have one on order from Arc, but was just told there was a chip problem and they won't have any available until the end of March. I'd like to buy one somewhere, but if there's a problem with the "old" ones I'd love to know about it (or if the new ones are that much better)....Rick

From one newbie to another, it would probably be best to wait until the end of March or until the new/modified design has been incorporated.

There seems to be, at this point, 3 categories of 'old' for the current design of the AAA and AA (which I think use the same led/circuit). The older ones appeared to have a problem rate of about 0.3%. Then the supplier changed their supplier and the problem rate went way up. I got two AAA's and one AA last Dec. that were part of that group. I returned those and got replacements which were presumably part of the lastest modification (an added capacitor I believe). The AAA-P seems to work fine, but the Std. AAA has some intermittent problems. I have not checked the AA enough to evaluate it yet.

Well, I might have screwed up but I went ahead and ordered one from BSDMall. Since it's under warranty I'm sure I can return it if there's a problem. What should I look for?

Davidra, the problem some AA's and AAA's have been showing is the light occasionally doesn't light up when you turn it on. If that happens, turn it off and turn it on again. It's not like the light is completely inoperative. It's more like a car that occasionally doesn't start the first time you turn the key. Yes, it's covered by the warranty; however, there's currently a shortage of these lights while the problem is getting straightened out at the manufacturing end. So getting a warranty replacement may end up taking a while.
