Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

What are your guys' positions on your Arcs? Are you going to use them until they die or stash them in a drawer? I put all of mine away (I only have a AAA, AAA red and an LSL-P), but I've been carrying the LSL-P with me everywhere I go this week and I just can't imagine not having it all day everyday. I have Peak AAA's for the keychain, so I can live without using my AAA's, I suppose, but what is everyone else doing? My take on the matter is that you'll either sell now to make a quick buck or keep them longterm, but I don't really see a collecting market for them. Maybe I'm wrong. I guess I'll probably use mine simply because I have no intention to sell them, and I really don't have any intention to let them gather dust in my knife drawer, either. Am I wrong?

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

To me keepin' safe is the same as losing. So I'm usin' my 4+ and AAA.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

If you're a collector or you have an Arc with particular personal significance for you, then stash it. Otherwise use it, or sell it if you want to make a few bucks. Except for possibly a few rare models, I don't think they will go up in value further than where they already are.

I took my AAA off my keychain (leaving a Photon II there) a few months ago to make room for a new knife (Spyderco Jester). When Arc folded I put the AAA back on the keychain just to get away from the collector thing; it was made to be carried and used, so that is the best way to honor it.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

We're in the midst of a bubble. I've been sellin' em as a result.

Arcs are good, but I've "moved on," and the current market conditions allowed me to raise discretionary funds for other wanted lights. (Hello HDS!)

That said, I did keep a couple AAA's for posterity.

Cheers,

Dave

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

Still carrying the AAA every day. I never really used the LSL and the AA much except to admire them.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I always like to have the best equipment I can get, but I've always had a rule. . . no one of a kind, collectible, or otherwise unnaturally valuable articles. This would make me reluctant to use them the way I wanted. I always bought "stock" equipment, in production and easily (though not necessarily cheaply) replaced. So it was when I bought my Arc LS, Arc AA's and Arc AAA's. Then, suddenly. . . They're going for $100 on eBay!!!

This is the antithesis of why I bought my Arcs. So I'm just going to keep using them hard like I originally intended until they die or get lost, or I die or get lost! It's a shame that Arcs are now collector's items, but that seemed to be a recurrent problem with Arcs. . . even when the company was in business, you simply couldn't get them. I don't think I saw an LSP available ONCE from Arc since I joined the CPF (I got my LSL when Arc stopped dealing with retailers and the company was just selling off remaining stock). And for the AA/AAA's. . . I guess I was just lucky to get them during the short time they were available this summer. Sorry for the "rant", but although I'm no businessman, I know you at least have to have a product to sell in order to make money. . .

Anyway. . . I'll keep using them; after all, they're great lights.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I only EDC my arc. AAA on my keychain and pocket carry my TWOH modded LS.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I carry an ARC AA on my keychain everyday. Either an ARC4 or LSH also lives in my watch pocket.

To be honest, they dont do much for the collector in me. Take away their functionality (by keeping them safely in a drawer) and they just become annodized aluminium tubes to me.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

In a similar vein, if anyone has an LS-whatever they'd like to get rid of and want a red AAA let me know. Crazy trade request, I know, but there are a lot of LS's out there and some of them must be collecting dust. My trade post is in the B/S/T forum, so reply to it there if you're of an inclination to ditch an LS! You never know...

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

Since I've alway been into function and not fancy, I work with my tools and play with my toys. They're no good to me in a drawer.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I still carry my Arc AAA every day, and I have another one that I keep at home. I did take the Arc LSH-P out of my backpack, and I carry a modded Longbow there instead.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

Saving and locking my Arcs up. I might eventually carry my LSH second again, but most LSHs and 4s will be locked up at least until a suitable replacement (such as HDS) officially opens up.

I concur. I bet that after the feeding frenzy dies down, prices at B/S/T and ebay will drop a little too. Especially if Peak or some other manufacturer begins to fill the Arc void.

As for my small Arc collection (5 AAA's and 1 AA), I'm still using 3 of them. The 4th Arc was dated on the last day of production, so I'm keeping it NIB, tho I don't know why. And the 5th, also from the last run, is staying virginous.

best regards

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I believe I remember seeing that ARC made about 20,000 lights...plus there must also be parts from inventory mis-match....that is overhead supply for sure...but they are GREAT lights and GREAT hosts...USE THEM

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I carry an AAA all the time, as well as an ARC Grey kit w/123 clickie on my work keyring.

Additionally I've got a "few" stashed and a couple "here and there" throughout the house for use.

Certainly an interesting "wave" we're surfing at the moment! I suspect the ARC torches will always be a unique item to us "Flashaholics", but not to the general public.

If you really think about it...20,000 torches are not that many. Numbers ot them will get lost, trashed, who knows what...and the ones that are left will become "rare coins" to "Flashaholics" that are familiar with Peter Gransee, ARC Flashlight, and the Candle Power Forums!

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

Using them or stashing them? I'm just giving them away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously though... nothing has changed. I buy lights to use them. If I have them, I use them. I have them, so I'm using them.

Should I say that again, or is everybody clear?

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

Nothing changed, still great carry lights, IMO.

I have some NIP that I have duplicates of that I'm not touching unless, I misplace others or something.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

I agree with Darell..
I got em so I use em. Be wasting my money if I didn't use it. Kinda like the scorpion..POS just kinda sits there.. sucks batteries like crazy, crappy tail switch.

Arc AAA sits on my keychain and gets used often.
When my empty AAA head and body arrive, it'll be sent to LED_ASAP for surgery. Then I'll give my AAA to someone who needs a light.

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

i'm excitedly expecting my first arc aaa in a couple of days and can't wait to start edc-ing it. i was on the backorder list when arc went under and had to pay a "little" extra to get one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i know for sure my arc is gonna get used and abused. yahoo!!

Re: Arcs- keepin\' safe or usin\'?

No change for me. I still EDC my AAA on my key ring and my 4+ or LSHF in my waist pack.
