Are lithium batteries dangerous?

I've read a few posts here that suggest that there is a danger in using lithiums on our flashlights, and it seemed as if it had something to do with using them with LED flashlights----



I did a google and couldn't find much other than the occasional warning of a fire if they are misused.



Any info?
