Just out of curiousity, are black E series from Surefire (except defender) very rare? because I have spotted a few for less than the normal HAIII. If they are, I will post the website for them too. I just want to help SureFire collectors out.

Why isn't SF manufacturing them anymore? I have an E2D and I just loved the black HAIII. Just wished to own a black HAIII E2e even though I had an E2e.

There is a big difference between a the desegnation from BK and BK-HA....from what I have read the E series BK-HA are the collectors items.

IN B/S/T there is a CPF'er offering several black E2e's. But I don't recall the HA annotation in his description, so I reckon these are the same as the "regular" black anodizing on my vintage (1990) 6P. According to his description, they are also of the "first generation"; i.e., clip permanently attached to the teardrop bezel, no anti-roll hex, etc.

But the price is certainly right, so I'm getting one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a quote from Size15s about HA Type II & HA Type III -

That's like saying "Hard Anodised SOFT"

There is no such thing as HA2. There's HA (which is HA Level 3) and then there's Level 2 which is standard, not hard.
I posted this on CPF a while back:
With respect, unless some anodising expert stops by to prove me wrong, the term "HAII" is rubbish (trash, utter tosh etc)

HAII is like saying Hard Anodised soft/weak/decoration.

SureFire state that their "HA" is Hard Anodised to Mil-A-8625 Type III Class 2.

Mil Spec Type II is sulphuric acid anodising which is usually dyed provides the very basic in corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and dielectric properties.

Mil Spec Type III is sulphuric/oxalic acid anodising which produces a thick and dense "hardcoat". This "Hard Anodising" or hard coating provides excellent abrasion resistance and corrosion protection, but is often difficult to colour.

Something to note (found while googling)
"At a sharp corner there will be little, if any, anodic coating. This is because the coating builds perpendicularly to the aluminum substrate. At a sharp corner there is, theoretically, no substrate to build on. Imagine a sharp right angle with coating building perpendicular to each surface. At a very small area along the corner there is virtually no anodic coating thickness."

There is no HAII.

I hope this helps explain myself?!

Does everyone want me to post the site?

I must say it was darn easy to find it. I am young and will not tell my age. just look in froogle in google. Find the lowest prices...

Wait A minute. Consult Customer service first. They might not be black.

It doesn't say they are E1e BK or E2e BK. It is possible, but I have my doubts that these are black. The black E2e & E1e were searched out at the time we found out they weren't going to be available anymore.

I think they are HA-Nat... Most of their pics on their site of HA-III Nat look very dark / black.

I think that they made the black color because they look more sleek and stylish that way. Most likely an advertising strategy....

These are regular HA E2Es. Note that the finish is matte or flat typical of HA rather than the semi-gloss look of type II. Since these are not E2Ds and E2Es are not HA black these are HA NAT, underexposed or PhotoShopped to look black.

To quickly prove this: copy/paste into Word then lighten about 3 or four clicks and you will see the familiar E2E. Note also that the ballpoint pen cover is now the familiar light blue instead of the artifically darkened deep blue.
