I am looking for an LED light that can be used with my Sony Camcorder. It has night vision, and Im pretty sure it uses Infered light.
Are there any LED lights for night vision ?

I have seen the ones by Sony.
I was just wondering if a led flashlight would be better.
I dont think the Sony one has a long throw. I think its a flooding one.
But then, most led's are also.

I have also been looking for better lighting for my Sony.
Here is what I have found so far:
The built in IR light is good for close in direct lighting.
The hot shoe IR light has further reach, but is also direct lighting.
I tried a modified light I got of eBay and it does not reach as far as the built in light.
I have an M1 and it is good for close and medium range.
I found an IR light at Harbor Freight that allows you to shape the beam from flood to spot. It is not as nice or compact as the M1, but I am finding it more useful.
I end up using the hot shoe light for direct lighting and then add highlights with the Harbor Freight light. When I want to impress someone with my equipment and am working close in, I pull out the M1.

I plan on taking my Sony camcorder into a cave this summer. The night shot on it is usually really good, and I figure sence Im going to have a few flashlights, and a Colmen Lantern,,, it should be pretty bright,,,,, but GREEN. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I might try to see if I can record without the nightshot on, so that its not green.
QUESTION:::: in night shot... would it be brighter to have IR lights running? Or just use regualr flashlights?

The reason you use a IR light source, is to record something without the subject knowing that you are watching them - if that is not a problem, just use normal lighting

I have the TRV20.
Mike pointed out that a regular light will work in night shot mode, but always be careful not to point the light at the camera lens. Understand that night vision equipment can be damaged by direct light. My instruction book has a caution about using super night shot in bright conditions (camera damage can occur).
The problems I have encountered in low light situations are that using a regular light destroys the night vision of the people you are taking a picture of and you loose spontaneity. The IR light just shows up as a dim red glow and is a lot more fun because the other people respond more naturally.
My camera has a lot of noise artifacts in low light conditions. I get better resolution using the night shot or super night shot modes in low light. I have just learned to off set the green shots with lots of daylight normal shots.
Good luck getting the green out. I have spent some time in Photoshop trying to give a night shot picture "natural coloring" and have not been successful. I can get some areas of the picture right on, but other areas have lots of problems with global manipulations.

Well, Photoshop wont help me, I will be filming video in the cave with it. Last time I just had my digital camera, this time I will have both /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Im will you on the noise, it will record in low light without night shot on, but it is too grainy, I guess having it green is ok if the quality goes up with it.
I will be having to light up the cave so that I can see anyway, so I'm not going to worry about IR light.
But I want to pick one up for later, for those situations you dont want to put light on your subject.
