Are These Rechargeables 123 Batteries?

Hello,

Got this from a thrift store. Are these rechargeable batteries? How could you tell if a battery is rechargeable?

They are just lithiums, not lithium-ions or any other variation.

Re-chargable 123's are known as Rcr123a's .

Their size is 16340 .

The numbers on yours indicate they are LARGER than 16340 size .

Usually , when they say 3V. - it means they are PRIMARY batteries , and can NOT be recharged - if you try , they might explode.

Thrift stores are NOT a good place to buy Lithium batteries .
They might be very old and vary a lot in voltage.
Only use them in single cell lights . (if they will even fit)
If used in series - they could be very hazardous .

READ the SAFETEY threads at the top of this Battery Forum - before using them.

Thank you all for the info. I got this inside a bag with a foam padding. The foam padding had slots for the 16 batteries. Got the whole thing for $2.00. The cells range from 3.18V to 3.22V. Tried two of them on my PD30. I ran it on high for 1 hour and turned it off when I went to sleep last night. I'll run it again today and see how long it will last.

I googled cr17345 and the results suggest Lithium primary cells (non-rechargeable).

These may very well be some of the safest lithiums on Earth. They've got an Underwriters stamp on them, for Pete's sake.

I wonder where they came from and what was their intended purpose .

To have UL stamp - does that mean they would have to have a protection circuit for over-discharge ..... I wonder ?

Is that 17345 really the size code? The last digit does not make sense... should be a "0" since its a cylindrical shape.

My vote = non recharge capable

CR17345 seems to be older nomenclature (possibly so named by Panasonic) for standard CR123 lithium primary batteries. The number seems to be geared around camera use. I think the OP’s confusion about his cells being rechargeable comes from the nature of many of the web-pages referencing CR17345. Most of them are selling rechargeable 123 cells, and are referencing all of the primary cells that their rechargeables can replace, including this odd-ball number. Many of the descriptions are somewhat confusing though, as on this page.

16340 and 17335 are generally equivalent. I'm not sure why the different numbers, but I have a cell marked 17335 that is the exact same size as others I have marked 16340.
Manufacturers who mark them with a last number different from zero don't understand the standard; zero means "cylindrical cell", it has nothing to do with the size measurements.

As for the type, "LIR" or "RCR" means rechargeable, "CR" means lithium primary. So, y'know, don't charge them unless you're looking for a fire. :p

Thanks again to all for the info. The bag had a Spinalogic mark on it and had a small instruction manual with like a steering wheel on it. I just found this online. Same picture on the manual inside the bag.
