Maybe a definition of SIG is in order.

He may have had more total donations. But I don't see how $156,000 could buy a famous millionaire.

And so it begins.
Before the election Arnold promised to repeal the recent tripling of the car tax.
Now governor-elect Kennedy is promising only to have his lawyers study the issue.

i think if politicians attempt to do things that the majority of the voting public want (like lower taxes--is there anyone that does not want lower taxes?), and a governing body/legislature blocks it...

the politician should take out a huge newspaper ad and rat the people out who blocked the progress! Arnie can even afford it.

I don't think it's an issue of Arnold not following through on his promise but rather he's trying to find a legal way to do it.

He can't, with a single stroke of the pen, simply undue a bill already passed by the legislature and previously signed into law. That violates the autonmy of the three separate branches. He'll have this same problem with undoing the illegal driver licenses and SB2. The law needs to be changed with a new bill or an initiative. I do believe, however, that there is a work around on the vehicle tax.

While he can't unilaterally say that the law isn't the law anymore, he can, through executive order, direct the DMV not to accept anything above a certain level and further direct them to refund the excessive amounts. This would work until the law can be changed.

Quite true. Yet he did say, in public debate, that putting an end to the "car tax" would be his first order of business. That he doesn't have the power to actually do what was promised seems to have come as a surprise.

**edit: I've been wanting to pat DD on the back for some time now, actually - and this is a good place. Back in July, when Arnold stated that he didn't really want to run for "replacement gov" our very own DD stated unequivocally that not only would Arnold run, but that he would win. Now, how do I get Diesel Dave to pick my lotto numbers for me???

On the news today Bill Lockyear stated that he did have the authority. However there are also several groups poised to file lawsuits. They also said he would probably be in by Nov. 17th.
