Aspherics lens questions.....again.....?

If using a pcb with 4 led's mounted on it, would you still get a good result by having one larger aspheric lens slightly de focused or 4 individual much smaller lenses?

And would the difference really be that noticeable?

And would using xpg leds instead of xre's make any difference to the beam angle that the lens couldn't just override anyway?

Since you have slightly changed your questions I will try and re answer them.

4 LED's behind one aspheric will result in 4 spots of light. Since they are all off centre they will all be out of focus even when "focused". Since they are all far apart the aspheric lens would have to be way way out of focus to merge all the beams and you would end up with a very wide beam.

So yes the difference would be extreme.

In my experience XR-E's work better with aspherics. XR-E's have a tighter dispersion angle and they also have a smaller die size than XP-G's.

Yes, I remember someone posted a beamshot of an XP-E R2 compared to an XP-G R5 with a certain narrow beam optic. The XP-E produced the brighter smaller spot.
 
Packhorse, I've ordered another W200 to replace the pill I screwed up in my other one and in general I plan to leave it alone and just use it as is but...

I did order the 23mm plastic optic lens 5 pack from DX just out of curiosity. What is your guess as to how the beam in that light would look if I replaced the reflector with one of those optics?

The reflector is more efficient I'm sure and the hotspot is probably tighter as well. The optic is supposed to have a 10 degree spot I believe but do you think it would have less spill than the reflector?

I'll have the head from my original light to play with so I'm sure to still have one good light no matter how I screw it up but since it hasn't arrived yet I'm curious as to how you think that optic will affect the beam.

No idea. It all depends on the optic which I have not used.
